Hi guys! I have a question about whether the work experience counts or not. It's quite different. So my parents opened up an in-home daycare back in 2011. It was a rough start at the beginning, however, due to the word of the mouth, their business starts to get really good. Around April 2014, they started to discuss how much they should save each month. I overheard this discussion and realized that they did not do any sort of meaningful accounting.
So I decided to create an accounting book from scratch for them. I helped them to create business checking accounts, credit card and stuff. I do all the bookkeeping, stats, ratios and etc. Basically, I do all the things accountants would do for a small business. It helped them so much that they finally know where their money goes.
I am not sure if I can include this in my business school application where it says "full-time job". In a certain degree, it is a "professional" experience. The only differences are that I don't really count how many hours I work a week, but I am assuming that it's about 20 hours max per week, I don't get paid, and I don't have any professionals to supervise me.
TL;DR: I did all things accountants would do (I started accounting book from scratch) for my parents' in-home child daycare. But I don't work 40 hours a week, I don't get paid, and I don't have a supervisor. Does that count towards the "full-time job experience" in business school application?
Thank you guys a bunch in advance. I apologies if anyone have had this questions asked but I didn't seem to find anything from googling around.
I wouldn't consider that to be "full time experience", but I would absolutely consider it to be "professional experience" and would place it under helping a start up company; You basically helped a small business enhance its financial reporting capabilities. If you set up an automated system to do all of this, that would be even better. I think that is good stuff
