Hey guys,
I took one of the practice tests last night from the GMATPrep software and only scored 510. I think Q36/V(awful). I went back through and reviewed the Verbal and realized I was probably pacing a little too fast. I finished about 10 minutes early on both sections. I believe that caused me to miss a few of the easier Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension questions because I was trying to answer too fast. The next time I take a practice test I'm going to not worry about the time and focus more on accuracy and reasoning behind my answer choices.
My biggest concern really came from the Quant. section and Sentence Corrections. In the quant section there were a lot of very unfamiliar things being used and the way the question were asked made it even worse. I have been using the Kaplan Premier book, but I feel the way they give you questions is too straight forward and then when I'm faced with an actual GMAT question I either know how to solve it already or I'm forced to strategically guess at it. For example, Kaplan will give me type of problem solving technique which is very basic, however the GMAT questions are never very straight forward and require a bit of thought on how to attack it.
This was all with about 3-4 days looking in the Kaplan book so I was not expecting very much on my first test. I just need some reassurance that spending a lot of time in these books will help me understand how to answer each question. Kaplan made it seem too easy as far as what they taught you but when faced with a GMAT question it was pretty difficult if I even knew what I was doing for the problem.
I'm borrowing the
MGMAT set of material from a friend as well, he said it will probably be better than the Kaplan. I have about a month and I am just looking for 550+ but would like to be hitting 620-650 consistently on the practice tests. My biggest concern is just not knowing all of the math concepts and the tricks to sentence corrections.
What is the best material to go about learning those two sections? Any other advice is much appreciated.
Thanks!
