Since 0.6 miles = 1 km
=> 1 mile = 1/0.6 KM
=> 2 miles = 2*1/0.6 = 20/6 = 10/3 KMs

Hence A.

Option A : 10/3

0.6 mile = 1 km
=> 2.0 mile = ? km
=> x = 2/0.6
= 10/3 km or 3.333 km

SOLUTION

If 1 kilometer is approximately 0.6 mile, which of the following best approximates the number of kilometers in 2 miles?

(A) 10/3
(B) 3
(C) 6/5
(D) 1/3
(E) 3/10

1 kilometer = 6/10 mile --> 1 mile = 1/(6/10) = 10/6 kilometer;
2 miles = 2*10/6 = 10/3 kilometers.

Answer: A.

Kudos points given to everyone with correct solution. Let me know if I missed someone.

Another way to look at this is 0.6 mile is 1 kilometer so 1.8 miles is 3 kilometers, hence the answer should be greater than 3 and there is just one answer choice greater than 3, i.e. A.

1km = .6mi = 6/10mi

(10)1km = 6/10mi(10)
10km = 6mi

10/3km = 6/3mi
10/3km = 2mi

Solution:

To solve, we must convert 2 miles to kilometers. We are given that 1 kilometer = 0.6 mile. Thus, we can convert 2 miles to kilometers.

2 miles x (1 kilometer)/(0.6 mile)

Notice that we put the unit "mile" in the denominator of our unit conversion ratio so that it will cancel out with "miles" in the numerator, and we will be left with kilometers.

2/0.6 kilometers

We can multiply the entire fraction by 10/10 to get rid of the decimal and we are left with:

20/6 = 10/3 kilometers

The answer is A.

I think it's easier if you just imagine or draw a graphical representation of the problem. Just draw a line representing the 2 miles and then approximately mark 0.6 miles (1 km) a few times along the line - it will become clear that the solution is 2/0.6.

To solve this question, we set a proportion:
1km=0.6 mile
xkm=2mile,
Cross multiple, 2*1/0.6=10/3, mark A

If 1 kilometer is approximately 0.6 mile, which of the following best approximates the number of kilometers in 2 miles?
.6 miles = 1 km
1 mile = 1/.6 = 10/6 = 5/3 km
2 miles = 2 * 5/3 = 10/3 km

1 Km = 0.6 miles = \(\frac{6}{10}\) miles or \(\frac{3}{5}\) miles

Therefore, 1 mile = \(\frac{5}{3}\) km

=> 2 miles: (2 * 1) miles = (2 * \(\frac{5}{3}\))km = \(\frac{10}{3}\)

Another logic:

1 km is slightly greater than half-mile (0.5) mile.

To get 2 miles, we need 4 * 0.5 = 2. Hence, we should get the answer close to 4 km and greater than 3 km as 3 * 0.5 = 1.5 miles only.

Option A: \(\frac{10}{3}\) = 3.33km
