I have a silly question. Shouldn't the correct answer choice have do or did after as .. like
because many residents of the Southeast do not share the same ethnic heritage as Northeasterners do
The correct answer is C ..

Yes, the sentence may have 'do' the end. However, both positions are equally acceptable, and the GMAT will never force you to choose between them.

Ex:

Carbon-14 dating reveals that the megalithic monuments in Brittany are nearly 2,000 years older than any of their supposed Mediterranean predecessors.

Could be: ...

...older than are any of the supposed Mediterranean predecessors.
