The human body’s blood vessels and veins are designed to keep fluid inside of them and out of the skin. A person can have a hive outbreak when the fluid escapes the blood vessels or veins and pools under the skin causing swelling. Hives can occur due to allergic reactions to common items.

Which of the following, if true, points to the most serious flaw of a plan to develop a medication that would prevent hive attacks by blocking receipt of any messages of histamine to blood vessels?

(A) Researchers do not yet know how the body produces the message that histamine is present and triggers hive attacks.
(B) Researchers do not yet know what makes one person break out in hives from a histamine attack when another person does not
(C) Such a medication would not become available for several years, because of long lead times in both development and manufacture.
(D) Such a medication would be unable to distinguish between messages trigged by different allergens
(E) Such a medication would be a preventive and would be unable to alleviate hives that had already started

If You like my question KUDOS pls.

" Hives can occur due to allergic reactions to common items." or maybe it can occur by some other factor. If it does allergens are not the cause and medication that blocks will not help. In B different person has different tendencies to break out hive. I guess B and D are competitors. D is weakened because allergens cause hive and it represents a negative phenomenon that causes hive formation,so whatever the message be, it will always block and therefore no hive formation.
I guess B is right.

A and B say that "Researchers do not yet know" which means they might know in the future whatever they don't know yet. So, I discarded these choices without reading further. Can such choice be correct?

The human body s blood vessels and veins are designed to [#permalink]
Imo D
Clearly D is the flaw in the plan to develop the drug for hive attacks .
If suppose a person is suffering from Allergy x caused by y and it also causes hive attacks the drug will not come to know about it will fail to stop hive attacks .
D states this .

Why cant this question have answer as B. ? If researchers doesnot know the allergens specific to all. then that can be a flaw right?

The human body s blood vessels and veins are designed to [#permalink]
Hi,

Can an expert provide a detailed explanation for this question?
And specific questions I have here are:

1. I initially thought that it would be A or B because you can't develop a medication without having an understanding of its mechanisms. Am I wrong to think that?

2. The part about 'blocking receipt of any messages of histamine to blood vessels' through me off a bit. Does this part have any actual significance in cracking this problem, or is it just an unnecessary info on about 'developing a medication' ?

Thank you!

Sangeeta2018 - thank you for your explanation!
I started gmat exactly a month ago, and am still getting used to it.

Are there any similar questions grouped together?

1. Passage deals about fluids in veins, hive attack and medication. What a researcher/expert thinks doesnt matter. Its not given in passage.
This is a v common pattern in GMAT CR.Expert opinions doesnt matter.

2.The portion you mentioned is just how the medication technique works. Its not of much importance in finding the flaw why or when the medication plan can fail.
