I bought plane tickets for the wife and I this weekend; we will be at the March admit weekend, and will be coming in early enough to meet up with y'all for dinner. I can't wait to meet everybody (for the second time, in the case of Rhyme, Kwam and Soni)!

i will be there as well. I have not booked my tickets yet but will come with my fiancee. It will be great to see you there, guys.

i am actually going to the Admit event in NYC today, if anyone is coming...

Looking forward to meeting you both! I wish I could attend an admit event in one of the satellite cities, but this weird San Diego to Detroit weekly commute doesn't help...

Does anyone know what the academic honors are at Booth (e.g. Baker Scholar at HBS and Miller Scholars at Stanford)? Or is it Dean's List or bust?

There are some things like 'Goldman Scholar' but those are scholarships that come with academic achievement, an application, an intended career path, and usually an interview.

As far as straight academic honors - its as follows:

Dean's List (3.5 or above)

At Graduation:
High Honors (top 5%)
Honors (top 20%)

Thats it as far as I know.

Buddies - I need some advice, not sure what to do...

I am considering leaving my FT job in one/two months, to do an internship before going to school. I am waiting to hear about my year-end bonus info to find out if financially it makes sense (if I get anything...). Anyway, before take the big step of quitting my FT job and losing my income, I would like to make sure that I have been fully vetted by Booth's adcoms. The earlier I know, the better I can plan.

My question is: Do you think it is acceptable for me to ask the adcom when they will do the background check and may be explain my situation and ask them if they could expedite.

I am usually straight forward with people but I would not want to raise a red flag and for them to be suspicious and go through an amazingly thorough check that will take ages... I have

Also, if I leave my FT job earlier than expected , my boss who is one of my recommender may not be ecstatic. If Booth is checking recommenders, I would want it to before! Just in case...

May be I am just too careful...

Sounds like paranoia to me. The background check is intended to identify serious issues of basically two kinds, either (a) things that could put staff or students at risk: prior felony rape convictions, aggravated assault civil proceedings, fourteen active restraining orders, etc or (b) things that raise other large questions: Outstanding IRS paycheck liens, no record of you at your supposed alma mater, your social doesnt match your name, etc... They are not intended to validate whether or not your Boss meant to check 'exceeds expectations' or 'meets expectations'. So unless you happen to take the "the" out of psychotherapist, I wouldn't don't get hung up on this background check.

I went to the Admit reception in NY last night and it was pretty nice. Lots of cool other admits.

Rose was there, which was nice and the CEO of Evercore who is an alumn was there. A typical Chicago guy, who put forward the benefits of getting a no-BS MBA (i.e At a school where you actually do some work). I think it was really nice.

All -

Here are some resources for Partners looking for jobs that I received from adcom, hope this helps:

The University of Chicago Office of Human Resources has a Student Partner Program that assists with locating temporary or permanent employment opportunities within the University. They also offer resume reviews and tips for job searching outside of the University.

Additionally, World Business Chicago has a lot of good information about living and working in Chicago: https://www.worldbusinesschicago.com/. This site includes a calendar of networking events, information on industries and workforce development in the Chicago area.

Other sources for job listings:

https://www.monster.com/

For those still waiting to book a hotel, Marriott has some pretty good deals for Chicago hotels over admit weekend (like $48/night or so). I think you have to be a Rewards member but it takes like two seconds to sign up for that.
