Besides, sorry for coming back to the "extra" internship topic, but I'm still curious whether it's up to me or the university has to approve. Say I find 2nd internship from mid August till mid October. Say also I'm wiling to miss the classes. Is it enough? Or do I need an approval from the school?

You can do whatever you want. If you want to miss every single class until the day of the final and throw a hail mary pass, go for it. The school wont stop you (although it might not be a great idea).

So other way round... how does it work when somebody wants to have 2 internships (one standard and one extra) and ultimately has 2?

Doubt you need approval but doubt you would also pass any of your classes if you missed half the semester

What do you mean? I dont follow....

Sorry. What I was asking is how did students, who had 2 internships, do this? Did they have 2 short internships? Did they had one long and one short internship? Did they had 2 long internships and just missed few weeks of classes (if so how many weeks)? Or did they take 2nd internship during winter break (if there is one)?

Because I think I'd like to have two internships but I also want to pass classes without hail mary :-D

In general, most of them just shortened both of them a little - most internships as usually 10-12 weeks with about 4 weeks left over before classes start up - for a total of around ~ 15-16 weeks, so most people do something like 8 and 8.

I just got a call from the guy assigned to congratulate me on the admit and find out whether I had any questions. Totally cool guy and incredibly enthusiastic about the program. Every turn in the road gets me more pumped for my time at Booth. He did mention that he recommended a 3-3-4 course load schedule for the first year, if I decide to take the Banking route.

Hey guys - so I paid my deposit and signed all the forms (yay!), any idea when we hear about the background check thing? It seems like a quick sanity check, but I thought it couldn't hurt to figure out how they let you know everything is a-okay.

Booth has done an awesome job making sure I have had opportunities to ask any questions on my mind. The student who interviewed me has contacted me, the admissions representative has emailed several times with info, and been quite responsive, and they assigned another current student to serve as somewhat of an early mentor. Pardon my french, but this school f*cking rocks.

yea they are great. What also stood out was that they overnighted my admit package. Not to mention the speed/clarity of the admit process. Stark contrast to the school across town:)

Kellogg assigned a mentor (called "buddy") as well, for the record. Mine is being very helpful (I think Soni, AC have one too).

disclaimer: I am applying to both, and I have been rejected by neither as of now.

I just got my K-bud assignment, as well as my Booth Buddy assignment yesterday. Good luck w/ app...would you consider Booth over Kellogg MMM (all things being equal)?

Sort of.

Students volunteer to call admits, and although many are called, I'm not sure there are enough volunteers to call everyone.

Once you join, you do formally get a mentor which you pick yourself from a big list of volunteers ( so you can get someone who is similar to you in goals or background or whatever)

I'm having some fun with Applied Regression Analysis, especially with one of the questions I got for the assignment I need to turn in next week:

Question 7: MBA Rankings
Business Week and U.S. News and World Report publish rankings of the top 20 Business
Schools. The Business Week overall ranking is based on rankings obtained from students and from firms that recruit MBAs. Along with the rankings, the magazine reports information
about the cost of getting an MBA degree and the graduates’ average starting salaries. The file rank.xls contains data on the 1992 Business Week and U.S.News rankings. It also contains data on the overall cost of getting an MBA and the average entry salaries for graduates of the top 20 schools in that year.

(a) What is the correlation between overall cost and entry salary?

(b) Plot a scatter plot of salary versus cost. What do you see?

(c) We are interested in answering the question “is there a payoff from spending more?”
by running a regression. What is the slope estimate? What do you conclude based
on the value of the slope estimate alone?

(d) Do you think you need to be careful when interpreting the result from point (c)? (Hint:
what does the scatter plot from (b) suggests to you?)

I would definitely do, otherwise I wouldn't bother to apply. I think Kellogg and Booth are excellent schools all-around (Kellogg's finance program and Booth's marketing are excellent). While the culture differs, both may very well appeal for different reasons to the same person: proof is oyu see tons of people here applying and getting admitted to both.

If I get into Booth or Wharton (which I consider on par with K/Chi) money will be a huge factor for me. Otherwise, I am very happily heading to Evanston.
