Just giving a heads up - 2013-2014 dates/essays are officially up.

The website is significantly different, and looks a hell of a lot better.

Good luck everyone!

Thank you. I'm not sure whether essays are up yet. The site still shows previous year's prompts (they might be the same this year. Having said that, the old ones were always there. So, no way to find out till we hear something on the blog) & link to admissions blog post that is a year old.

Posting the snapshot of the deadlines.

I agree with you 100% on the website! I always wondered if I was the only one who thought the old site was outdated and hard to navigate.

R1 decisions by Dec 20th- this will make or break my Christmas! Good luck to all!

Yes ofcourse its not live yet... it states "NOTE: The Application for The Duke MBA - Daytime program is currently not available as we are undergoing a yearly update process. We expect the application to go live in mid to late July."

So we'll have to wait some more before we get to see the updated essays.. ohh this wait is killing me

but i've got a lot to do before i start my essays.. should focus more on that :x

Anyone know when open interview slots will open? I know the dates are posted on their website of the open interview period, but can't seem to figure out how to sign up for one.

I guess you would be able to register once the application goes live.

Duke recommends candidate initiated interview for EA round. But it also mentions that if the candidate is non-US/ West Coast, it understands that it is very difficult for the candidate to travel and interview on campus. Any idea why does Duke recommend candidate initiated on campus interview for EA round ??

Though Duke says that it understands the difficulty for international cases, but still does not opting for an on campus interview throw a negative light on the candidate's commitment and motivation for Duke ??

Applicants of any round are welcome to interview in the Open Interview period. But it makes sense for EA candidates to take advantage of this because
a. The open interviews are held at a time close to and after the EA deadline.
b. The EA round is binding, so it is in the applicant's best interest to visit and understand the school culture before committing to a binding round.

That said, if you live on the West Coast or abroad, it will not be held against you. But if you can make it out to Durham, why not go?

Posted this under the "Fuqua" discussion" but posting here as well...

Females, I'd highly recommend applying for the "Weekend for Women" event, which usually happens at the beginning of November. It's a great event for prospective students and also an opportunity to interview ahead of time. I had a great experience and got a lot of great insight by attending the event; info that other applicants might not have had...definitely a leg up in the application process. Also, other schools have similar events so would highly recommend looking into those for your schools. A simple google search with "school name, women, prospective" should give you results. Good luck!

FYI, if you're going to apply EA and you have ANY reservations about your application, make sure to visit BEFORE the Open Interview period. The admissions team told me pretty bluntly it's hard for them to take any EA candidate seriously who has NOT visited the campus beforehand. Again, it's a bit of a case by case basis if you're from out of the country or you're an amazingly strong candidate, but I wouldn't risk it if you're serious about it.

The school website has the essay questions listed(which are same as last year's) even though it mentions that "The new application will be available mid- to late-July, 2013." Are these questions for the current application season?

Most likely last year's. They did not pull down the essays from their website after the season. There would be an announcement on the blog (or somewhere on the website) that the essays for new application are available. Anyhow, you'll know when they are released because one of us will post them here.

Hey guys, I am looking to apply in R1. Is there any way I can contact current students, say via mail or by phone (or by any other means)?

All the best to everyone applying!

You can contact the Fuqua clubs in the area that you are interested in.

Since there are lots of questions on EA or R1, here's a simple decision diagram.

The scholarship decision is controversial. Although there has been EA folks who got scholarships. I would say, at minimum, your bargaining power on scholarship is reduced by applying EA.

The official word from adcom is that applying in EA doesn't weigh on your scholarship considerations... but... I agree with you. The question is, does the increased likelihood of getting in during EA outweigh the potential for a scholarship

Hey guys - great to see so much activity in this thread - it seems to be one of the few that's already jumping on this board.

Sorry to be pulling in a quote from some older topics but we want to set this to rest: YOU GET THE SAME CONSIDERATION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS IF YOU APPLY DURING EA.

That comes straight from Fuqua Admissions - we have a full write-up in our blahg post today: Duke Early Action and scholarship money.

Second: THERE IS A REAL ADVANTAGE TO SUBMITTING EA.

This comes not from Fuqua but from our years of experience in helping guys like you. Your app must be strong - they don't cut corners or make compromises - but if you're doing your part and coming in on your side of the bargain with what you present, you're going to sail right in.

Last: DUKE EA IS BINDING.

Once they accept you, that's where you're going. Don't pass Go. Don't collect $200. Obviously some shmucks take advantage of this at Duke and CBS ED; please don't be one of them.

We acknowledge that most of this has been articulated on this thread already but wanted to reiterate it to help set the record straight.

If we can help let us know - and best of luck to all of you! Great school, hope you make it.
