I do not mean to pain, but shouldn't the unofficial also be an attested copy from the university? As far as the instructions in all the universities go, an unofficial transcript is one where you have opened the envelope.
Official - Transcript + Degree - Attested by University - Sealed in an envelope - Signed across the envelope flap - to be just couriered/mailed either by you or the university.
Unofficial - same as above, except that you opened it, scanned it and uploaded it - which means that it cannot be mailed anymore to the the universities that you have applied to.
Just letting you know so that you can urge your university for a copy and still upload it if required.
I have asked my university to provide me an attested copy, hopefully they will soon.
shyamnambiar, you should also talk to your university to send the certificate as soon as possible, even if the requirement is at the later days. There's no harm in doing so, right!
I have transcripts from 3 places, and 1 of the 3 DOES NOT give transcripts in sealed condition. So it is possible to seal the envelope yourself and send it to the School required, and it is accepted. By now, most Schools know which Universities do things which way, especially if they are known names. In my case, one, Cochin University (CUSAT) gives sealed transcripts with cello tape all over! I decided to open up one, and found that it contains each semester marks on one page, with one page conveying the overall grading. It does not enclose a copy of the Degree certificate, but only the grade. And each page has a field which states the School it is issued for! Which means, no taking for X and sending to Y!
Another is IIT Delhi. They give you transcripts in sealed envelopes, which contain ONLY the mark sheets of each semester, no degree/ diploma certificates - attested or otherwise. These are not marked to specific schools and you can write what you want on the envelope.
However, there may be a separate provision for you to apply for a certified copy of the degree/ diploma certificate in most places, unless they are ridiculously bureaucratic (CUSAT comes pretty close! I could become a scientist at NASA sooner, I think!)
Hope that helps. As for my case, I intend to do nothing till Admissions are confirmed, as I have uploaded the image of all non-transcript covered papers and no school is about to hold up admission process pending receipt of an attested Certificate, if they find the candidature good. Which is what Shrek1190 also said, you get until jun to complete it. So no point spending money, time and effort in running on that road at present, I feel!
