GMAT Study Plan - How to Start your GMAT Prep

Starting My Gmat Study from tomorrow :

Pre-Work done for two weeks :
1. Looked around for best gmat books , read their reviews and recommendations
2. Bought some of them
3.Took a diagnostic test and assessed my weak areas.
4. Devised a study Plan ( Attached in PDF in above posts )

I am posting my plan section wise. Starting my study tomorrow. please suggest any improvements or changes. moire than happy to learn from your experiences and make them a part of my ammunition before i go on the war !

SECTION 1 : MY GMAT GOAL

Test Date : Oct 25 , 1.30 pm
Preparation Time : Aug , sept , till oct 20 ( 2months -20 days )

Goals :

1. Review of GMAT Skills -Grammar, reasning, arguments, reading and Math Skills, Make my own Notes and Practice of all concepts i reviewed using OG , OG Companion guide and error Log

2. Advanced Quant and Verbal Strategies - Avoid Traps, Silly Mistakes , Advanced Strategies and Advanced Practise
( 700 + level questions ).

3.Timing and test strategies - Improve my timing and Test taking strategies.

* Read two RC Fiction books over iphone , catch speed and sentence formation
* 1 Gmat clubtest referes to 36 quant questions.
* P&T week is Practise on weekdays and tests at weekends.
* Target to cover 12 Gmat club quant tests or 12*36 = 413 quant questions ).

( OG weeks ) 3 weeks : OG Complete Practise and AWA basics & some Practise

PHASE II - September 3 weeks :

Target Practice for each day - 20 SC and 10 CR in morning & 20 Math and 3 RC in evening

Weekend -

PHASE IV - October 3 weeks

Target Practice for each day - 40 SC# in morning & 20 Math and 3 RC in evening

oct 23 (Sunday ) - Go through GMATPrep CR and SC questions list
Oct 24 - Relax
Oct 25 - D Day

horrible breakdown if you see my prep tests, M42, V45, but whatever, I'm done!! And that's a 70+ increase.

Well, it is pretty darn difficult since 780 is a 99th percentile, which means only a handful ever score that high.
730 is 96th percentile gmat-scores-83890.html

It all really depends and it is quite relative (depends on where you start and what you need to improve). Nothing is easy with the GMAT

P.S. I don't think you can quantify really but you are welcome to try.

Hi All, jst need some advise....I am out of touch with academics (req for GMAT) for long.with 10 years work experience. As a prelim draft of self study plan, I want to start with the MGMAT online program.Its a 9 weeks program. Note, earlier plan was Kaplan, but following all threads in the club I am of the opinion that MGMAT would be the best fit for me.To brush up my basics.And then start the Kaplan premier.In 3 months time when I am confidant of my score want to start a Knewton program to enhance strategies and score improvement.basically by Jan next year I wish to give the exam...Request all to share comments on my approach.

MGMAT and then knewton , that would be $$$ . I know you are willing to invest beacuse you have lost touch out of academics and i do agree ! But there's a more affordable solution.

Please provide more info like :

1. Native or nor Native background
2. education background
3. Work experience and domain
4. Take a Gmat diagnostic test from gmatclub or official Gmat guide 12 ! and give me the scores ! This is important to assess your skillset since you are out of academics for a long time.

It helps me to give you a piece of advice that's tailor made for you, depending on your overall background and some pre-assessment of your skillset

Hi Hoogly, thanks for ur revert.I am not a native english speaker, but my english is strong got a band 7.5 ielts wt 10 days prep.education - very strong in maths till school (A grade in boards), high school bio science (avg).hospitality mgt then. into operations mgt currently,with future interest in finance/projects.currently doing a finance correspondence course (distinction).Work experience middle mgt level with hardcore hospitality ops mgt.About diagnostic test. I am not feeling confidant to do it.cos last 3-4 months I barely got time to research on GMAT, but have not prepared nothing (not even basics)....would u suggest i take the diagnostic?It might be self embarassing....bt next month on I am definite on starting GMAT prep
