Hi rallyrahul and pradeepram,

I am from Bangalore, India. I have applied for Queen's Full-Time MBA (Jan 2016 in-take) and my application is almost done with the essays, informal interview and video questions. So far so good. I still have the formal round of interview pending which is scheduled for the end of this month. I would like to know whether formal round is another round of getting to know the candidate and his or her aspirations or whether it is a decider round.

I've been talking to the current students at Queen's and from whatever I hear, Queen's MBA structure seem to be aligned with my post-goals and I am leaning towards Queen's over other b-schools (if I get acceptance that is). Have you guys got the acceptance? What about scholarship and loans? Enlighten me please.

All the best amararchana
my interview questions were:
Why MBA?
Why Queens?
Why Canada?
Describe any team conflict you handled?
Describe any critical feedback you had given?
What if you do not make it to queens?

I am going to queens. Done my homework and I find it the best option for me. Queens is more about team learning.
You can get a schol between $10,000 to $30,000 depending upon your application.

Thanks for the tips Rahul. I'll keep them in mind when I attend the formal interview. If things go well and I get acceptance, I think we will be meeting in Queen's campus in January 2016. I'll keep you posted in this thread.

Hi amararchana,

All the best for your interview. I am from Bangalore too and I have been accepted for the Queens Full time MBA program. I had a direct formal interview. I did not have an informal interview before.
The interview was straightforward. It was with a career coach and a member from the admissions team.It was for 30 mins. The questions they asked me was -

Why MBA?
Why Canada?
Post MBA goals?
What qualities should i possess to market myself ?
What is my leadership style
An example of my leadership style
How have i dealt with issues in the team
what i expect to learn from MBA

I asked two questions about the curriculum and internships. If they are really happy with your profile and interview, like how rallyrahul said, they give a scholarship in that range .

The schools program is comprehensive and focuses on team based methodologies. I will be joining there this Jan.

Hope you crack the interview. All the best. Let me know how it went. :)

Hi Pradeepram,

Congratulations for making it into Queen's. Like you said, the questions seem pretty straightforward. I was asked the same during the informal interview (which they called a meeting). It was with a Associate Director. At the end, he was pretty happy and said that the formal round will happen with another Associate Director who was in charge of admissions and recruitment and a career coach. The meeting went on for nearly an hour (because we both got a bit chatty :)) and I am not sure how long the formal round would go. Anyways, from what I hear from the current students, the formal round is just to make sure the one who is speaking is the one who has actually written the essays and things like that and it should mostly go fine. I'll keeping my fingers crossed though.

I've started my application for Ivey but if I hear from Queen's before that and if I hear a positive result with a decent scholarship, I would drop my application to Ivey. Lots of parameters there. Lets see. Thank you too for all the questions. I'll keep them in mind and also keep you updated.

By the way, just another question to you and Rahul. How long did it take for you guys to hear the decision from Queen's after your formal round of interview? The Ivey R2 deadline is August 10. I am kind of hoping to hear from them before that.

Hi amararchana

I got my decision from queens 10 days after my interview. They are pretty fast and i applied really early too, somewhere in the end of March. I had my interview on April 10 and got my decision on April 20.

Like you mentioned, the formal round is just to confirm about your story and you. Since your informal interview went pretty well, the final round shouldnt be a problem. When is your interview scheduled ?

Hi bilbo,

Video questions are general behavioral questions which doesn't need preparation. The idea is to get impromptu answers from candidates and to know him or her better. You have two practice questions that you can take to make yourself comfortable. Each of those two practice questions will give you 30 seconds to think of an answer and then 1.5 minutes to answer them. Once you are done practicing, you can attempt the real application questions. You will have to answer three questions. After every question is asked, you will be given 15 sec to think of an answer and then the recording will begin. You will have 45 sec for each answer. When you are done with the first question, you will be asked the second and then the third. I felt a little nervous too before taking the video questions but trust me, it gets over very quickly, 10 min tops including the practice questions that you'll not even realize it. And besides, the questions are fairly straight-forward. Nothing to worry. I was asked the following three questions:

1) What do you think is very important for a highly effective team?
2) If you boss asks you to do something that is against the organization's policy, how would you react?
3) Talk about one of your weakness and how are you working on it.

All the best!

Hi bilbo,

You are welcome. I applied with a 680 in GMAT. I still have the formal round of interview pending which incidentally is scheduled for tonight 9 PM IST. Only after that, I will know whether or not I made into the program. Fingers crossed!

Hi pradeepram,

The interview went fine. I was asked the usual questions, including the ones that you had told me about. The interview lasted for about 30 min and I was told that I'll be given the decision by Friday. If I hear a positive reply from them, then I'll message you my mobile number and you can add me to the Watsapp group.

Quick question.....hoping people can share it here (anonymously of course)

So I read on Queen's website that it offers some full scholarships to the MBA program students. Does anyone have an idea approximately how many of these full scholarships there are? And how generous is Queen's with this kind of scholarships overall?

Thanks in advance for any input!
