razer727 : Sorry to repeat again but I am not the right person who knows about who admission team will recruit and who it will not. I am current student. My personal advise for you is to work for few years before applying and make sure you prove your leadership skills at work. Also do some extra curricular work

StrawberryCow: I havent heard of any such case at Rotman but having said that If you are really looking for a fee waiver , I would suggest you to write an email to admissions team

Hi anandin, thanks a lot for your reply. I will get in touch with admissions team regarding this.
However I want to ask you few more questions about the program. This helps me understand if it fits in my overall career plans. Here they are:
1. I read somewhere 46% of the class of 2012 have internships in the financial services sectors. Could you please share some details about the roles on offer in the of the financial services sector for Rotman MBAs. What % end up in sales trading, brokers, IBD kind of roles?
2. Please explain how the scholarships at Rotman admissions. Are these offered to all international students, whats the GMAT score like for international student(s) who may have received CAD 20 grand ?

best regards,

@strawberrycow : internship are in summer May- Aug. I am not sure about the % and statistics on split up of summer jobs as I am in my 1 yr. To answer that the best person will be admission team as they are the ones who compiled stats.

There are number of scholarships. Entrance scholarship is common for everyone (domestic/international) and that is what admissions offer once you are admitted. There are some more scholarship after you start your first year, mostly for domestic , 2 for internationals and 1 for women students. We also have some more options like Rotman scholars, etc. Do check the rotman site and they have detailed stuff about these.

And regarding GMAT score and admissions, I am repeating again GMAT score is just 1 part of your whole application. So its how unique you are and how competitive you are might get you scholarship. There is a article in poetsandquants about how rotman selects admissions. It was from 2012 interview but it really has some insights.

As every current student will advise you, applying early definitely has more chances of getting scholarship than applying in a late round.

Hi

Do you know what are the second years are all doing? As far as I know the second year is less intense than the second year. Do you know anyone doing school year internship in the second year?

Thanks in advance!

@MangoYu, there are few that are doing school year internship. I know one who is working for a tech company. Generally 2nd yrs are busy during this part of the year because of job search/interview preps. I have heard that, 2nd yr Jan term has relatively less workload and some of them start work (internship turned into fulltime) as early as feb.

Hi Anandin, it's really nice of you to take the time to help fellow applicants.

I have a question, I am interested in breaking into management consulting, and I hope you could kindly offer some insights.
1. What are the major consulting companies that recruit on campus? From what you've seen, what's the success rate like for people pursuing consulting?
2. Do rotman mbas have to compete with mbas from the US for consulting positions? Can we apply for locations in the states?
3. I have never done any high profile jobs (like VC, IB and alike), just risk analyst. But I do have a GMAT of 750 and GPA of 3.7. From people you know in the program who want to pursue consulting, do I stand a chance?
4. I am already the mother of two children, and I know consulting is not necessarily the most family friendly career, but I love to problem solve in a corporate setting. So I am researching for the least evil of all consulting jobs, do you know which consulting firm involves less travel?
5. If you know some second year students who did a consulting internship, can you please give me some contacts through PM?

Thanks a million!

Hi lindalibinbin,
This is my honest opinion on what i have learnt so far but i think a 2 yr guy who is currently preping for job search will be the best option.

1. What are the major consulting companies that recruit on campus? From what you've seen, what's the success rate like for people pursuing consulting?
McKinsey,BCG, ATK, Deloitte, PWC, Ernst and Young. For the nest question I am not sure how to quantify the success rate. My belief is that every person has their own definition of what success means
2. Do rotman mbas have to compete with mbas from the US for consulting positions? Can we apply for locations in the states?
I am not really sure about this but most likely we dont compete with US but rather compete with other schools in Canada. Top MC companies in canada actually operate as "North Americas" rather than focusing only in Canada(as canada is a small market). If you are one of top MC guy, i would expect that you travel atleast 4/10 travels to US
3. I have never done any high profile jobs (like VC, IB and alike), just risk analyst. But I do have a GMAT of 750 and GPA of 3.7. From people you know in the program who want to pursue consulting, do I stand a chance?
your GMAT matters for the TOP MCs but UG GPA doesnt matter. All it matters for them is your MBA GPA. So i would say if you are doing great in MBA with 3.7+ you have a fair chance to be selected for interviewing
4. I am already the mother of two children, and I know consulting is not necessarily the most family friendly career, but I love to problem solve in a corporate setting. So I am researching for the least evil of all consulting jobs, do you know which consulting firm involves less travel?
Yes there is a job like that :-D and that is Internal Strategy position in any big corporates. For ex Rogers, CapitalOne, RBC etc have few internal strategy positions every year. These jobs allow you to maintain a healthy work life balance and NO TRAVEL. One of those who did internal strategy summer internship mentioned playing foosball during lunch 8-)

5. If you know some second year students who did a consulting internship, can you please give me some contacts through PM?
best is to reach out to admissions team as they can give you the right contact you are looking for. mail them , they would definitely reply but it takes sometime as they are doing admission info sessions

In for R1, submitted app on 11/4.

Do you need your official undergrad transcript from your college for application? I am told to get it from my college directly to Ad com office.

Yes, that's correct. You will have to send a copy of your sealed official transcript to the MBA Admissions Office. Even I missed it. Apparently your application won't be considered complete unless you send an officially sealed transcript.

Re: Rotman (Toronto) Class of 2016 Calling all applicants! [#permalink]
Hi,

Quick question. For those who submitted their applications, did your Official GMAT score show up as "received" in the supplemental documents section before you submitted? Or did it show up sometime after?

I wrote mine back in September and had my score sent to the Two-Year Full-time MBA (I think this is what it was called when I selected it during the test) but it has yet to show up as received in the supplemental documents section even though I submitted my application by Nov 4.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
