Hi lindalibinbin,
This is my honest opinion on what i have learnt so far but i think a 2 yr guy who is currently preping for job search will be the best option.
1. What are the major consulting companies that recruit on campus? From what you've seen, what's the success rate like for people pursuing consulting?
McKinsey,BCG, ATK, Deloitte, PWC, Ernst and Young. For the nest question I am not sure how to quantify the success rate. My belief is that every person has their own definition of what success means 2. Do rotman mbas have to compete with mbas from the US for consulting positions? Can we apply for locations in the states?
I am not really sure about this but most likely we dont compete with US but rather compete with other schools in Canada. Top MC companies in canada actually operate as "North Americas" rather than focusing only in Canada(as canada is a small market). If you are one of top MC guy, i would expect that you travel atleast 4/10 travels to US 3. I have never done any high profile jobs (like VC, IB and alike), just risk analyst. But I do have a GMAT of 750 and GPA of 3.7. From people you know in the program who want to pursue consulting, do I stand a chance?
your GMAT matters for the TOP MCs but UG GPA doesnt matter. All it matters for them is your MBA GPA. So i would say if you are doing great in MBA with 3.7+ you have a fair chance to be selected for interviewing 4. I am already the mother of two children, and I know consulting is not necessarily the most family friendly career, but I love to problem solve in a corporate setting. So I am researching for the least evil of all consulting jobs, do you know which consulting firm involves less travel?
Yes there is a job like that and that is Internal Strategy position in any big corporates. For ex Rogers, CapitalOne, RBC etc have few internal strategy positions every year. These jobs allow you to maintain a healthy work life balance and NO TRAVEL. One of those who did internal strategy summer internship mentioned playing foosball during lunch 5. If you know some second year students who did a consulting internship, can you please give me some contacts through PM?
best is to reach out to admissions team as they can give you the right contact you are looking for. mail them , they would definitely reply but it takes sometime as they are doing admission info sessions
