Re: Sloan 2013 (MIT) - Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
I agree with most of what Dbalks said. I've visited quite a few times now (I live in MA) and Sloan definitely has an off-beat culture (in a great way!). That said, I think Sloan does want to see that you've taken an effort to get to know the school. Plus, given that all applications are scored numerically, I would not be shocked to hear that registered visits are part of your overall, computed score. Again, though, that's completely a guess on my part.

Fair point falcon, its possible they give you an extra point or 2 for registering a visit. Maybe they consider it an indicator that you are serious about b-school and will be productive there? My guess is they arent concerned about yield because they dont seem to care about that kind of stuff.

It is possible I got an extra point or 2 from visiting which might help explain how I miraculously got invited to interview.

Hehehe...I really do believe that Kellogg was a better fit for me. For some reason this guys just know! They are expeters, indeed...

Well there really is not much to tell. I applied a couple of days before the deadline and only had replies from their MBA staff when I updated them about certain changes in my profile.

But up until today, I had had no feedback at all! This just happened minutes before I posted.

Well, good luck to you all with the process!

I also strongly suspect that Sloan gives applicants more than brownie points for visiting PRIOR to submitting an application. Skip the visit if you've already applied, because that wouldn't sway interview decisions any way. As someone posted above, you should sitting in on class when you go visit for interviews.

In R1, the interviews started going out about 6 weeks after the deadline (Oct 24th was the deadline and we heard of the first invites in the beginning of December). I am not sure if the timeline is the same for R2 though.

So I had my Sloan interview today. I think I might just be the last person Sloan interviewed for R1. Well R2ers, hope this helps you -

1) Started with my resume - tell me about your current position, we discussed my role etc.
2) Tell me about a time you had to take others' interests into account.
3) Tell me about a time you had to lead a team.
4) Tell me about a time when you set a goal for yourself.
5) Why MBA? Why Sloan?
6) My questions to him.

Thank you! This helps!
Was this Adcom or a second year student/alum who conducted the interview?
In person or on the phone?

Adcom - in person in CA. I remember reading somewhere that all Sloan interviews are by adcom members.

Correct. All interviews are done by either full-time adcom staff or contract adcom staff.

I think I was the last :-D

I had mine at Jan 18th, 4pm in San Francisco and the interviewer was getting ready to head back to Boston right after. I saw 2 names before mine at the McKinsey sign in sheet with "Sloan" in one of the columns (interview was at McKinsey office).. you must be one of them?

As far as the interview, ours became very conversational right off the bat. All the questions were products of the answers to previous questions. It started with updates to the resume, then clarification on my work (i'm an engineer), then into some behavioral type questions, same as the ones I've quoted above.

we ended with Why MBA, then questions for him.

Email then call, according to some first-years I met on campus last week.
