Here is what i did.
You can eliminate A and B cause you cant tell what IT refers to.
You are left with C, D, E.
Now here you must understand the meaning of the sentence.
You need to ask yourself whats the different between Direct Communication and communication directly with/through etc...
I eliminated E because i felt that Due To (which is the same as because and its better to say because of something) is idiomatically wrong.
Between C and D, which was hard to choose i just thought about the meaning of the sentence.
They wanted to emphasize that they had a Direct Communication and not a Communication Directly through...

indeed confusing. when it comes to Idioms there's not much to do...

Hi rajatr,

Your doubt is totally justified. There is a subtle difference between (C) and (D),

(C) Retains the meaning of original sentence which says "directly through"

(D) "direct communication" with "spiritual dimension" makes more sense

In such a case the test taker will be in an indecisive state of mind; whether to choose something that makes more sense or to choose something that maintains the original meaning. Based on the given sentence alone we can not prove that "communication" cannot take place "directly through a psychedelic awakening". So, the choice becomes more subjective in nature than objective.

Actual GMAT questions do not have such issues. So, as I always say, best questions for practice/ analysis etc are the official questions. If you have exhausted all of your official stuff, then go for other stuff.

But, if at all I have to choose an answer, I will chose (D) just because "direct communication" sounds better than "communication directly"

Hope it helps,

Vercules

Vercules, this is 100% what happened to me on this one. I must say I usually choose to go with the answer choice that maintains or is closer to the original meaning

Cheers
