FROM IMD Admissions Blog: Challenges ahead and Anja’s Apron |
As discovery trip is coming closer and closer, we are realising, that summer starts to be over and the real challenges of the autumn time are arriving. First of all the job search, which seems to put more and more pressure on most of us. Everybody is trying to enhance the network relevant for their stories, fine tune the CV or find out the key messages of the next cover letter. Last week we had company presentations showing several opportunities for MBAs all over the world, and you could continously hear discussions about likes and don’t likes. Although career is a key focus for most of the class, Navigating the Future is also arriving quickly and we had again deadlines, which seemed to be so far away at the beginning of August. Although our topic (food security) was absolutely new for me, I’m amazed, how quickly we could put together an eye-opener material about the topic. Of course it would be much harder without receiving some very insightful tips from Gagan Khurana from World Economic Forum. And ICP is also arriving. Today we have a full day meeting with our client, and we are already preparing our work plans for the period after 22nd September. So we can not be bored, but at least, we have the weekends, when everybody can find his or her favorite program. Some classmates went to make a rafting near Bern, but we have rather enjoyed the Lausanne a Table festival and especially the delicious creations of Anja, Sinisa’s wife. The Anja’s Apron stand was not only very well designed with full of creative ideas, but practically became the central meeting point of the IMD class for Sunday afternoon. Thank you Anja and Sinisa, and I hope you will open your permanent shop soon! András |
FROM IMD Admissions Blog: Packing up for the discovery trip |
Tomorrow the IMD MBAs will embark on the long awaited Discovery Expedition. We’ve heard so much about it, even before we joined the program, and now it’s finally here! One third of the class will go to São Paulo + Rio, one third will go to New York + DC, and one third will go to Singapore + Kuala Lumpur. I am in the Singapore group, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been to Singapore many years ago but only for a couple of days. Since then I have always had a desire to go back with a bit more time to see what the place is all about. This time I’ll have a whole week there, and better yet, I will get to learn about it from the locals. We will be meeting with executives and IMD alums based in Singapore, they will share their thoughts on the business environment there and the challenges and opportunities us MBAs may encounter in that part of the world. I believe this year will be the first time the MBA class will be splitting into three to go to different locations. I will be curious to hear about the experiences of my sixty colleagues who go to the US and Brazil, especially since the cities they will be visiting are so familiar to me. I'm thankful my classmates who have spent a lot of time in Singapore and Malaysia have shared a lot of tips of places to go and things to see. The power of the IMD diversity! The only challenge standing in my way right now is getting everything packed up. Bring on the trip! Marcelo |

FROM IMD Admissions Blog: photoblog - Camille Mirshokrai visits IMD |
Last week we had an interesting guest speaker session with Camille Mirshokrai, a high level executive from Accenture. She was invited to speak about Women in Leadership, a topic that has led to much discussion among the class and the IMD community this year. Here in a picture with Pasha and Lara |
FROM IMD Admissions Blog: Navigating the Future |
We are in final preparations for our upcoming event 'Navigating the Future'. This inaugural year, we will be hosting senior executives from leading companies to discuss global trends and the implications for business decisions. The group I am in will be presenting on the topic of Food Security, an issue I know well having worked for many years in Africa and Latin America. My familiarity with the subject only took me so far. Our objective was to look for business implications and opportunities within the trends that we observe. Due to this, we came up with some rising innovations that have not be tapped by traditional non-profits and governments. Fifteen trends in total will be covered over a two day period. This will give many of us the chance to showcase our knowledge, our teams and the IMD MBA overall. There will also be ample time for networking! Ashley Silver |
