Good points. Unless you were interested in the oil/gas industry I would go with TCU but you might want to talk to a student there and see how they are liking it and working out for them.
Also, I wonder if the Rice name behind me is more important specifically for the field in which I intend to work: Management Consulting. Does anyone have any experiences with how having/not having a more prestigious university behind them has affected job searches and earning potential? (I know TCU is a good school, but I wonder if having "Rice" on my MBA degree will significantly influence my lifetime earning potential.)
I would speak with career services at both schools... but looking into the data for each on business week
https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/ra ... /rice.htmlhttps://www.businessweek.com/bschools/ra ... aschr.htmlIt looks like 22% of Rice's students go into consulting, with an average salary of 110K
although 18% of TCU's grads go into consulting, their average salary is around 80K.
This leads me to believe that a larger percentage of Rice's consulting jobs are management consulting... although I may be wrong. I guess they could be going into energy consulting, but I have no knowledge on the salaries in that sector...
One of the top recruiting companies at Rice is EY, so I would assume it would be less strategy, but I don't know for sure. I would reach out to students that landed jobs in consulting (maybe the consulting clubs?) and see how many people get into the strategy side.
