I started the
MGMAT Class in September right after I took an initial CAT test (510) without knowing anything about the test. The class went on for 9 weeks where I took another CAT half way through (540) and another at the end of the class (540). I felt the class was marginally helpful. I spent so much time relearning the fundamentals and I shouldn't have wasted 3 of the practice tests before I really had a better grasp on the material. From November-January, I feel that I really did not have a plan on how to study and I did not want to take another CAT test until I worked out my timing issues and my weaknesses. I downloaded all the GMAT apps on my phone which I use daily on the train/taxi etc. I found that these keep your mind fresh and have been helpful. I took my 4th CAT exam 4 weeks ago and scored a 620 with 49% on the Quant and 79% on the Verbal. The verbal score made a big leap from where I was after the 3rd test. I did find I got easier passages in RC with no scientific terms so I really do not feel that this (79%) is where I really am. Most of my mistakes in Quant came from real careless errors and getting 500-600 level questions wrong. With my goal of getting into the 700 range, I knew I had to keep going. My method of studying before I took CAT 4 was to pick for ex. 15 PS, 15 DS and the same for each type of verbal question and do timed sets like the real test. This helped me with my timing and getting used to experiencing different question types.
I went to
MGMAT for tutoring and the instructor told me to work on all of the problems of Algebraic Translations, Rates, Statistics, Coordinate plane, Triangles... He told me to go through and do all of the questions for each subject before moving onto the next. After 3.5 weeks, I have got through about 75% of the material he told me to go through without touching on any Verbal. I find myself taking so much time doing this to where I almost forget about the sections that I previously covered. I study so much ( 2 hours each weekday and 4-6 each Sat and Sun). I know find myself completely lost when I look at CR questions and to be honest, I am burnt out at this point.
I know I have what it takes to get my desired score and it will take me A LOT more time and effort; I am ready for that. I do not have a test date in mind just yet but I plan to apply to schools next fall.
What would anyone recommend for some encouragement and a better study plan?
Thanks everyone!!!!
Also, does everyone here feel that the
MGMAT Practice tests are an accurate assessment of where you really are?
