_________________________________________________

Understanding the intended meaning of the sentence is crucial to solve the question.
We can split answer choice by ''have'' or ''has''. Subject of the sentence is ''difference''.
A - Subject + verb disagreement , Difference + ... have - Incorrect
B - the same mistake as in A
C - the same mistake as in A. Moreover, ''favours'' refers to ''accolades''. This is incorrect, because Subject and verb dont agree.
D - Correct use of ''has'' - Keep it.
E - ''favours'' refers to ''accolades'' , the same mistake.

D is our winner, the answer choice correctly uses Subject and verb as well as gives intended meaning of the sentence.
Hope it helps.

The correct option is option D.
"the difference" is the subject of the sentence hence requires singular 'has'. A,B and C are out.
E is wordy and awkward. Hence, D is correct! :)

The subject is 'the difference'. We can drop choices AB&C because they ended with have.
Between D & E, E has two clearer modifiers modifyaccolades.
Option E is the answer.

A B and C can't be correct as they end with have and the statement talks about the difference hence 'has' will go with it. Option E has 'over those that are' to avoid repeating the genres of fiction hence it completes the statement in an apt way.

A,B,C are out because subject is the difference so we must use singular verb.
E has wrong comparison.
So only D is left

(A) Right Answer.
(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have Not B. over those that are - is an example of redundancy
(C) Not C. That can't follow this sentence
(D) Not D. Using has after plural is wrong
(E) Not E. That can't follow this sentence

Subject is "The difference" => has => have is incorrect. A,B,C out

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
favors is singular => that modifies "the difference" => doesnt make sense. critical accolades favor. the difference cant favor anything.
E out

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
Nothing wrong with D. Meaning is clear

Answer: D

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have

This option suffers from a subject-verb agreement error. "The difference" is a singular subject, and "have" is plural, creating inconsistency.

(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have

This option repeats the same subject-verb agreement error as Option (A). The singular subject "The difference" does not match the plural verb "have."

(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have

Option (C) also contains a subject-verb agreement error. The plural verb "have" is used with the singular subject "that," leading to inconsistency.

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has

Option (D) corrects the subject-verb agreement error. The singular subject "The difference" now correctly matches the singular verb "has." However, the phrase "afforded to" is awkward and unclear in this context.

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has

Option (E) provides the most effective sentence. It correctly uses the singular verb "has" with the singular subject "that." Additionally, the use of "those that are" after "over" clarifies the comparison, making the sentence clear and grammatically correct.

E is the correct answer

The difference in critical accolades afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have been a topic of extensive discussion, for quite some time, in the field of Gender Studies.

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have
(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have
(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have
(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has

Solution:
The biggest error here is the SV number agreement. Here 'the difference' is the main subject and the topic of extensive discussion. It is a singular noun and hence should have singular form of verb i.e. 'has' and not 'have'.

Hence we can straight away eliminate options A, B, and C

Now between option D and E

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
This option has another SV number agreement error. Here 'favors' point to the action of the immediate noun i.e. critical accolades which is a plural noun but the singular form of verb is used. It should have been 'favor'. INCORRECT

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
This is grammatically correct and conveys the intended meaning of the original sentence. Also it correctly uses the SV number. CORRECT

difference is singular, we need has ABC out
D and E are grammatically correct; however no need of repeating the noun unecesarily.
Therefore D
