There is a split in the ending of the underline part of have and has. As the subject of the sentence is "The difference", we need the singular has. This eliminates choices A, B and C.

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
No issues and corrects the initial error of using "have" instead of "has"

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
Here "that" refers back to "critical accolades", which is plural. Therefore the use of the singular "favors" is incorrect, and needs to be the plural "favor"

Answer D

THIS IS A SIMPLE SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT. FIRST SPLIT IS BETWEEN HAS AND HAVE. SINCE THE SUBJECT IS DIFFERENCE WHICH IS SINGULAR, WE CAN STRIKE OUT A, B, C

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have
INCORRECT CAUSE OF HAVE

(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have
INCORRECT CAUSE OF HAVE

(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have
INCORRECT CAUSE OF HAVE

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
HERE THE COMPARISON IS NOT APPROPRIATE AS THE "critical accolades" ARE NOT MENTIONED. HENCE INCORRECT.

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
THIS IS PERFECT. HAS IS USED AND "critical accolades" ARE MENTIONED IN FORM OF "THOSE THAT".
ANSWER E IS CORRECT

#1: In above sentence Male-focused genres are nonsensically compared to female-focused. It should be comparison of genres instead.
#2: Difference is singular so in the end, it should be has in place of have

(A) Error #1
(B) Error #2
(C) Error #2
(D) Error #1
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has: Correct, it rectifies both errors.

IMO E.

"The difference" requires a singular verb. Hence all options with "have" can be eliminated. Option A, B and C can be eliminated. Option E has incorrect usage of "favours". We require the plural "favour"

Answer Option D.

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have-- usage of have is wrong for singular difference
(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have-- usage of have is wrong for singular difference
(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have-- usage of have is wrong for singular difference
(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has-- there is no noun after 'over' so comparison is incompelte
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has-- comparison is correct and SV errror is remoed

(A) Afforded to 'A' over 'B'. Here A and B don't have parallel construction. Also 'have' can not be a verb for the singular subject 'difference'
(B) 'have' can not be a verb for the singular subject 'difference'
(C) Same mistake as in (B)
(D) Correct
(E) favors A over B. A and B don't have parallel construction

The difference in critical accolades afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have been a topic of extensive discussion, for quite some time, in the field of Gender Studies.

Quote:
(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have
Subject is singular, therefore usage of "have" is wrong.
"afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused" is a modifier.

Quote:
(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have
Subject is singular, therefore usage of "have" is wrong.

Quote:
(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have
Subject is singular, therefore usage of "have" is wrong.

Quote:
(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
Usage of "has" is correct ,but "Predominately female-focused" of what? Here, female- focused is an adjective. A noun must be present after "over", making the meaning clearer.

Quote:
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
Meaning is clearer than D because male- focused genres are being compared with female-focused genres & Usage of "has" is correct.
IMO OA should be E.

My Ans - D

The main subject is difference, which is singular. The difference in X has been a topic for extensive discussion. Therefore A,B,C are out.

Between D and E, "The difference that favours" doesn't make logical sense. The difference can't favour. Therefore, thru POE - D.

The difference in critical accolades afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have been a topic of extensive discussion, for quite some time, in the field of Gender Studies.

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have
incorrect S-V agreement through use of 'have'; singular verb is required in respect of singular subject ie, 'the difference'

(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have
incorrect S-V agreement through use of 'have'; use of singular verb is required in respect of singular subject ie, 'the difference'

(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have
incorrect S-V agreement through use of 'have'; singular verb is required in respect of singular subject ie, 'the difference'

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
correct comparison using 'over'; also, use of 'has' represents correct S-V agreement -- hence the correct answer

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
incorrect meaning through the use of 'that favors' ; difference doesn't favor -- rather it's the difference afforded to genres of fiction that has been a topic of discussion

(D) is the CORRECT answer

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have - S-V usage of have is incorrect, also meaning issue sentence seems to implied that content of the genres is male focused rather than male writers who are focusing on particular genres.
(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have - Incorrect - same meaning issue as A
(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have - Incorrect - usage of have is incorrect also wrongly compares male-focused genres with female focused rather than female focused genres.
(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has - Incorrect- Illogical comparison of males -focused genres with female.
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has - correct

The difference in critical accolades afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have been a topic of extensive discussion, for quite some time, in the field of Gender Studies.

difference has been a topic -> needs singular verb , eliminate A, B, C

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has - praise and approval afforded to , keep it
(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has - not a correct option for two reasons 1. praise and approval that favors 2. male focused genres of fiction over other genres of fiction , not a right comparison

Answer: D

I think the correct answer is E.

There is a 3 to 2 split between have and has. We're talking about different so we need has.

Coming to D and E, E is parallel.

(A) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over the predominantly female-focused have
'Difference in accolades' is singular, we should use the singular verb 'has' here not 'have'

(B) afforded to genres of fiction that are predominantly male-focused over those that are predominantly female-focused have
same error as in option A

(C) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused have
same error as in option A

(D) afforded to predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over the predominantly female-focused has
This option has the subject- verb agreement. The phrase "in critical accolades afforded to" is correctly placed before "predominantly male-focused genres of fiction" and "the predominantly female-focused," making the sentence clear and grammatically correct. Correct Choice

(E) that favors predominantly male-focused genres of fiction over those that are predominantly female-focused has
it unnecessarily repeats "are" in the second part of the sentence ("those that are predominantly female-focused"). It makes the sentence wordy and less concise.
