Sloan (MIT) 2013 - Calling All Waitlisted Applicants

Did anyone attend the Waitlist chat today? Can anyone provide a recap?

So, apparently there are 200 people on WL and there could be movement later this month. With that said, I am now scrambling to send my update ASAP. There is hope for all of us yet.

What kind of updates is everyone sending?

I sent in educational (gmat, grad classes), professional (performance ranking, new project) and extracurricular (award) updates. Nothing too elaborate, but hope it's not too late!

It was mentioned on the chat that there could be movement in May, so I guess we will find out.

So when do people think that we will hear anything? What is everyone's back up plan if Sloan does not work out?

My back up plan if I do not make it off the MIT wait-list. I only applied to two schools this year due to severe injuries sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan 18 months ago. So...I am going to cast a wider net and re-apply to Sloan and apply to Tuck, Yale SOM, Columbia and NYU. In the meantime I continue to finish up my medical retirement from the army and I will try and land an internship for the fall. But hopefully, everything works out with Sloan this time around. Good Luck to everyone!

Just in case everyone did not know, deposits were due today! I think we should see some activity in the next 2 weeks, hopefully.

haven't heard a word yet and am patiently waiting... past waitlist chat indicated they will be utilizing the waitlist extensively this year, so hope that is the case!

How long is everyone willing to wait for the wait list? I am ready to wait until the last day!

Yes, I got a call from Jen Barba; I believe she's the waitlist manager for this year. She called to say that there is a "high priority waitlist" (all those talks about "no ranking" in waitlist is apparently not true) and I was on it. They wanted a quick turnaround so I have about a week to make my decision, which isn't hard at all for me!

As far as what I did to manage my waitlist status -- I got letters of support from (a) a recent alum whom I've known for a few years as friends; (b) 1st year student in a student org I was interested in joining and got in touch during the app process; and (c) 2nd year student from my previous employer. I made sure to help them outline how I can contribute to Sloan and basically why I need to be a part of c/o 2015! I also got an additional recommendation in from my boss.

Based on the research that I did, it seemed that Sloan AdComm appreciates support from the Sloan community, so I made sure my candidacy reflects that from various constituents from a recent alum to a 1st year student.
