Hi,

I would appreciate if someone can let me know where can I find the essays topics for this year. Also I would like to know the list of questions for those people who will be giving my recommendations. I've looked at the school's site, but didn't find those questions anywhere.

Thank you in advance and good luck to everyone with application!

Hi, the essay questions show up only inside the online application portal.

Essay 1
The application essay allows the admissions committee to get to know you better both professionally and personally. Additionally, the essay is used to assess writing skills, which are critical in the MBA program.

What are your specific post-MBA short-term and long-term goals? How will an MBA degree from the Robert H. Smith School of Business assist you in achieving your goals? Finally, please discuss your personal and professional motivations for pursuing an MBA.

Please limit your response to 2 pages, double-spaced.

But I am not able to see any other essay question on the portal. Last time they had 2 essay questions.
Only one essay this year? bit confused here.. :(

There is a second optional essay.

And recommendation questions can be accessed by your recommenders once you add their name to the list inside the application.

Rohitc1987 - can you please help me with my question

Ramarvi and abhishek241, thanks for the prompt response!

Everything is clear with the Essay now. I have not started the application yet, because I am still working on many things. I'm planning to apply within a month or so. In regards to recommendations, I am in the process of contacting my recommenders now and was hoping to get the list of questions so that they could have a time to answer them.

Even though I live and work in the US I have degree from Europe and the US application process is completely new for me. Can anyone please let me know, how exactly the application process work here in term of online application? Can I start my application before I complete my Essays and other things, save it somehow, and get back to it later?

Thank you!

Melania,

Yeah... you can save and edit your online app as you wish.
I guess the admission office can view your application during that time. But it is not considered as a 'submitted application' until you decide to finish all sections and pay the application fee.

Hi Abhishek,

I apologize for the delayed response, I had my Finals going on!! Let me begin by saying that I am not on the Admissions Committee and I have absolutely no bearing on the admission decision process. Admissions decisions are based on a holistic view of the entire application which involves GMAT, TOEFL, Work Experience, Resume, Essays, previous education, extracurriculars etc. Therefore, I am not qualified to evaluate your profile. However, if you have any specific questions, I will be happy to answer them.

I would however recommend that you look at what it is that you want to do after the MBA and see if the Smith school is strong in that area or if the Smith School has some of its alumni working in those companies. Also, another classmate of mine from India also comes from an Energy background, so if you would like me to connect you to him, send me a PM and I will share his contact details via PM.

Regards,
Rohit

Hi Everyone,
I`m facing issues while sending the TOEFL scores.
The department asked us to send to departmental code 02. And I don`t find any 02 code in the official website.
Can someone guide me on this ?

Thanks,
Vignesh

Hi guys!

I just got an email from Smith saying they're reviewing my application. Has anyone else heard back? Have they started sending interview invites yet?

Hey,

How'd it go? Can you shed some insight into the process - was the interview focussed on questions on your resume and career goals or a general conversational discussion?

Hey! So the interview was with a member of adcom, and it was pretty straightforward - going over my experience, why Smith, why an MBA, why now. She also went into a lot of detail on my resume - gaps in employment (even the 2 month gap after graduation, when I was looking for a job), etc. But overall, pretty friendly, and not bad at all.
