For starters, Mgmat Sentence Correction is an excellent resource available. IF you want to ace the SC section, i think this is definitely worth the price.

It is not bad. Math is good. Verbal is weaker, however.
The cool thing about it is that they are split by the category and very inexpensive.

They are quite different.
The Kaplan Premier is a guidebook and OG 12 is a collection of practice questions... different purpose. I would say if you were to buy only one, get the Kaplan Premier book but you probably want to get both of these.

Re: Best GMAT Books [#permalink]
(have happily re-discovered the local library - lots of GMAT prep material available for free!)

Slowly working through MGMAT's quant material at the moment, I'm quite impressed as it covers the basics well without 'dumbing down' too much and really hammers home the basic concepts (the sort of help I need!).
I'll definately look at their SC guide later on as it seems to be quite popular in on these messageboards!

As a source of extra questions of a reasonable difficulty level, I found Kaplan's GMAT 800 to be quite good with each answer explained extensively. As far as questions go though, I'm finding there's more than enough material available on the gmatclub website to get stuck into :)

My one slightly poor experience has been with McGraw-Hill's 'Conquering GMAT math' book - which I found to be overly simplified and not able to deliver material that is sufficiently representative of that delivered in the exam.

Hello,

I would like to put my GMAT books on SALE!
Selling it off because I'm done with GMAT and have secured admissions as well.

Books are very well maintained without any scribblings or markings. These are the only materials I used, apart from taking regular computerized mocks. Of course if you need some inputs on preparation or admissions I would be glad to share my experience - need not necessarily buy books for that :)

Kaplan 2009 - with CD (300)
GMAT Official Guide - 11, 12 (500)

GMAT OG Verbal Review - latest (150)
GMAT OG Quant Review - latest (150)

GMAT paper tests - 5 sets (100)
Jamboree - math & verbal (90 percentile Qs) - (250)

I've marked the expected INR in bracket. If interested, folks around Bangalore area pls PM me.

Thanks,
AnotherMBA

Re: Best GMAT Books [#permalink]
Thanks as always "bb". Regarding Kaplan's books, would it better to buy a used copy of the 2010/11 Premier book with CD or the more recent 2011 book without it?

The reason I ask is because I figure you can reinstall the CD and get some more practice out of the 4 tests on it, as opposed to running out of their 6 online tests and then having no more tests to draw from.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Best GMAT Books [#permalink]
Dear bb,
I am new to the GMAT Club. But well, I have to compliment you for this fabulous resource for GMAT Takers. Thank you so much from the heart!

I have a few questions and will be really grateful if you can answer them.
Can you please guide me regarding the complete set of books and strategy pertaining to my current status? I have already gone through all your book reviews, but would like to take your opinion to achieve my target.

My Current Status:

1. GMAT Target: 750+
2. GMAT on 20th August, 2011.
3. Not Employed: So substantial amount of Time for Preparation
(Willing to put minimum 8-10 hours daily until August – 3 Months).
4. Set of Books that I have are as follows:

General Strategy:
1. Official Guide 10th + 11th + 12th Edition.
2. Official Guide - Verbal Review (2nd Edition)
3. Official Guide - Quants Review (2nd Edition)
4. Kaplan Premier – 2010 – 2010 Edition
5. Kaplan 800. (+ Nova, McGrawHill, Spidey’s Notes, Peterson – Master the GMAT etc…etc)

Specific Quants + Verbal Guides:
1. MGMAT Number Properties
2. MGMAT Fractions, Decimals, Percents
3. MGMAT Equations, Inequalities and Vic’s
4. MGMAT Word Translations
5. MGMAT Geometry Guide
6. MGMAT Critical Reasoning Guide
7. MGMAT Reading Comprehension Guide
8. MGMAT Sentence Correction Guide
9. Kaplan GMAT Verbal Workbook.
10. PowerScore LSAT Logical Reasoning
11. PowerScore Critical Reasoning.
12. Princeton Review Manual + Verbal Workbook.

Which books do you think should I essentially add to the above mentioned collection to achieve my desired score of 750+?

Thanks very much in advance.
Nelson.

I dont know that there are any books you need to add at this point. Focus is a good thing, and too much material can rob you of that. Perhaps start with MGMAT, and once your are finished take a CAT to gauge your progress.

Re: Best GMAT Books [#permalink]
Hi,

Unlike many previous posts which have a long list of book titles,I hereby conclude that I am not privileged enough to boast of such long a list :(

Currently,I have the following books:

Kaplan premier 2008 edition
OG 12
Manhattan SC
powerscore CR Bible
and a host of soft copies which I don't know whether i will get time to go through.

i intend to take my GMAT exam in June end.

Please let me know, which other books are required for verbal and quant practice.

thanks a ton!
