The McCombs Full-Time MBA

As the only top-20 MBA program located in the state of Texas, the McCombs School of Business, located at the University of Texas at Austin, challenges students over the two-year program through four key pillars of learning: Knowledge and Understanding; Responsibility and Integrity; Communication and Collaboration; and a Worldview of Business and Society. Upon entering the program, students are divided into cohorts of 65 students – a close-knit community with whom core courses are taken during the first year. From within this cohort, students are then further divided into project teams of about five students, building camaraderie and teamwork from day one. Aside from its academic rigor, McCombs is known for its prominence in the energy sector, its hands-on leadership opportunities including the Texas MBA+ Leadership Program, and for the balance that its students are able to achieve while earning their MBAs.

For applicants who are interested in the energy sector, most would be hard-pressed to find another MBA program better suited for helping gear its students toward entering the energy industry. The McCombs Energy Management and Innovation Center has spurred several initiatives to explore innovative ways of creating energy efficiency, and offers several courses to compliment these efforts as well. Examples of courses available to McCombs MBA students include the Energy Finance Practicum, Business Analytics and Decision Modeling, Energy Law, Management Sustainability, Sustainable Business Management, and Petroleum Oil and Gas Accounting. Aside from the energy-centered curriculum choices, the Energy Management and Innovation Center hosts panel discussions and conferences, publishes regular energy management briefs to give insight to new energy-related issues, and collaborates with Natural Gas Policy Research Project in an effort to provide policymakers and other key stakeholders with valid information on how the natural gas spurt can be used to lower greenhouse gas emissions, both domestically and abroad.

A second unique aspect of the McCombs program is the Texas MBA+ Leadership Program. Under MBA+, students are taught through professional development to be professional leaders. Through services such as peer assessments, communications workshops, executive coaching, and sales training, MBA+ gives students access to the services needed to craft their growth as a professional and to ultimately connect students to companies and organizations that appeal most to their strengths and interests for micro-consulting projects.

Finally, the McCombs student body is regularly known for being able to maintain a balance between life, work, and school while providing an open and collaborative environment for minority students, women, the LGBT community, international students, and the U.S. military.
