The Stern Executive MBA Program

New York University’s Stern Executive MBA (EMBA) program appeals to senior managers, executives and entrepreneurs for several reasons. First, Stern’s location in the heart of New York City provides a central location --- for many, a location that is either close to a hub or the heart of their business, that provides networking access to partnering or close-tie businesses, or that is close to influential NYU alumni. Second, Stern is known for having a strong emphasis on research, which means that the faculty is responsive, receptive, and up-to-date on the most recent happenings in marketplaces domestically and globally. Finally, the structure of Stern’s EMBA program allows students to continue to pursue their careers undisturbed.

The Stern EMBA program seeks experienced professionals with a working knowledge of managerial practices and business successes. These professionals have an average of 14 years of work experience; however, only a minimum of six years work experience is required for admission.

For 22 months, EMBA students meet on Fridays and Saturdays every other week at NYU’s Manhattan campus to take courses such as Professional Responsibility, Global Economy, and Communication for Teams and Leaders. Stern EMBAs are also eligible to specialize their degree in any of seven concentrations, including Quantitative Finance, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, or Global Business. Additionally, as an EMBA student, Stern grants access to additional courses, including those taken by part-time students and courses taught through NYU’s School of Law, School of Public Service, School of Continuing and Professional Studies, or the Entertainment, Media, and Technology program.

In addition to the Friday and Saturday classes, EMBA students are required to attend three one-week residencies – two of which must be abroad. These Global Study Tour courses are selected by Stern faculty and administration to carefully focus Stern EMBAs on relevant market trends. Tours in the past have ranged from Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. While abroad, students are able to interact on an in-depth level with government institutions, industry leaders, and financial organizations. Generally, for the second tour, faculty and administration choose a culture and market very different from the first tour to make sure that students are exposed to, understand, and embrace a diverse range of market industries.

Lastly, to ensure that students are able to remain a work-life balance, only two courses are taken at a time. This way, students can maximize their focus onto the areas of study at hand while being able to apply their knowledge to their work on a first-hand basis.
