If you are getting ready to take the GMAT, a test that will play a huge factor in your application to business school, you might be feeling the pressure a bit.

As with all tests, it’s all about how you prep, so here are 10 songs to get you through all stages of the prepping process.

When you need to get pumped

Staring at study guides for hours on end can make it to the point where the words all blur together and you try to convince yourself that you don’t care about going to business school as much as you actually do. We all fall into this rut, but if you want that good score, you have to get out of it!

The song that I suggest to blast when you need to get pumped back up to study is “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. The beat of this song will help get you in the zone. If you need to, paint some stripes on your face and give a yell or two.

Focus on why you want to go to business school, and let the song pump you up so you can get back down to studying. When this song is blasting, get up, move around, do air punches, yell words of encouragement to yourself in the mirror, whatever you have to do to get the job done. If anyone walks in on you screaming to the song, just explain your methods and they’ll totally understand.

Another song that you can try is “Boss A** Chick” by PTAF (if you want the unclean version, you know what that is as well). The song might be questionable, and I’m not really a fan of the lyrics, except for the title lyrics. Sometimes you have to remember that you are a Boss A** Chick (or dude) and you are going to kill that GMAT.

This is a song that you definitely have to strut to during your study sesh, and it will give you more confidence as you go back to studying. This one might be more fun with a study buddy on hand.

When you need motivation

Sometimes we need those motivational songs that will give us chills and allow us to keep going.

One song that might help you get that feeling is “Brave” by Sara Bareilles. If anyone has told you that you can’t pass the test, can’t make it to business school, or just can’t do something in general, give this song a listen and block out the haters.

Another one that I am surprisingly recommending is “Drag Me Down” by One Direction. It doesn’t matter if you love them or despise them, this song is actually really effective in giving you motivation to keep going and not let anything stand in your way.

When you just need to cry

If you are to the point of freaking out about the test that you just need to let out some emotion, that’s okay! It’s honestly better to let it out and then move on. One song that will definitely bring the tears is “Pink Tie” by This Wild Life.

You can sit there, ideally in front of a window that has rain droplets running down it, and pretend you are in a dramatic music video as you contemplate life and the status of your studying.

Another one for this mood would be “See you Again” by Wiz Khalifa. After both of these songs, you’ll be all cried out and ready to move on and get back to studying. Maybe listen to one of the pump up category songs after these sad ones to get you back in the zone of what you need to do.

When you need a break

Sometimes you need a song that will take your mind off of your studying, even just for a few minutes. This category will also require a study buddy that can double as a dance partner. “Uma Thurman” by Fall Out Boy might do the trick to get you out of your head and dancing around your place.

“Ex’s & Oh’s” by Elle King is also a fun one that might help you have a bit of a break. She is so witty and her voice is pretty unique, so it will be something different to break you out of the funk of studying.

*This category also works well if you insert your favorite song and jam out to it. It’s best if it’s more upbeat, but if you need a relaxing break, you can always pop something soft in.

When it’s the day before test day

The test is tomorrow, and you are freaking out! But you can do this. You need to believe in yourself and know that all the studying you have done up to this point is going to get you where you need to go.

A song to help you realize this is “All Star” by Smash Mouth. Just imagine them speaking to you specifically as you go over some last minute study prep. Remember, confidence is key!

“Afterlife” by Ingrid Michaelson is another great one to listen to before test day. You are going to be alright, and Ingrid’s words just might make you believe it.

So there you have it, 10 songs that will help you through different stages of the studying process. Music can get you through anything! Have songs that were on your own list? Share in the comments below, we’d love to hear what works for you.

Good luck! And kick that GMAT’s booty.
