Could I be denied to the schools solely because they believe I have not demonstrated enough involvement in helping Black, Latino, or Native American communities?
In other words, could I be grant admission but not membership to the Consortium?
I'm really confused about this. If I haven't done much community work specifically to address racial inequalities, am I better off applying to the schools individually?
Thank you!
You
can get accepted to a school and NOT gain membership into the consortium. From what I have heard, it is always best to apply through the consortium. The schools evaluate you for admissions first (the same way they evaluate regular applicants, except for the difference in essays), then the consortium evaluates you for membership. I believe once you are accepted into the consortium, the process for fellowship evaluation occurs. Its also possible to get into a school and into the consortium, but not offered the fellowship.
