Re: Calling all applicants - Rotman Class of 2017 [#permalink]
Hi,

Kindly evaluate my profile and let me know what % chance I have of getting a call (or perhaps an admit) from Rotman.

Profile Snapshot:
GMAT score: 680 (Q49, V33) (in 2012)
Ethinicity: Indian
Gender: Male
Work Exp. : 61 months (till Aug'14)
Current Designation: Senior Business Analyst
Employers: Infosys, Edifecs Technologies, United Health Group
Highest Qualification: Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science
Target stream post MBA: IT consultant / Stratigic consultant

Please note, I had already had admit from Rotterdam University, Netherlands and McGill University, Canada for Class 2015 but couldn't accept them for financial and personal reasons. I would also like to know the following:
1) criteria based on which Rotman acts as gurantor for the candidates
2) what is average scholarship which Rotman provides to Asian candidates

Hi WannabeTitan,

Apologies for the late response. I'm not sure if I would be the right person to do a profile evaluation as admission depends on a lot of criteria such as your story, essays, interview and your interest-to name a few. I can get you connected with an admission director who would be happy to answer your questions. Does that work for you? I'm sorry that I'm not much useful in this case.

Regarding your other queries:

1) criteria based on which Rotman acts as gurantor for the candidates << Rotman doesn't act as guarantor for the students but few banks offer half-tuition loan without a co-signer.
2) what is average scholarship which Rotman provides to Asian candidates << As far as I know, the range of scholarship among South Asians is from 10K-50K. There are lots of stipend/Financial aid/Waiver in Rotman, such as Entrance scholarship (based on your profile), Rotman challenge contest (Full/Partial scholarship) etc. You can find more about those in the following link. https://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/Degrees/M ... tance.aspx

Thanks

Hi Kingme,

Thanks for reverting.

I would be glad to have a discussion with an Admission Director.

I do understand that, as aforementioned by you, there are various criteria other than score which accounts for an interview call from a college. My intention was to check whether my score along with my work experiece, apart from my essays, puts me in a decent enough position to expect a call back from the college. Please note, certain colleges embark on high GMAT score, so it's better to check beforehand :)

Hi WannabeTitan,

One simple rule that I used was to have ticks and crosses for each profile criteria. For example, if you are above the average GMAT score for a school then a tick and if not, a cross- because if you have a lower than average GMAT score for their school then the adcoms are going to hurt their ranking by taking you and unless you have a great career or story to tell, the adcoms are not going to take that risk. The same tick/cross rule applies for other factors such as career progression, brand name of the companies you've worked for, extra curricular etc.

So if you have tick marks for all the criteria for a school then you have a very good chance of getting in otherwise you'll have to work hard on the factors that are in your control to convert them from simple ticks to awesome "Yes"!

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Does anyone know what is the application fee for Rotman?

And, do we need to send the official score report with the application or can that be sent post the final decision?

Congrats! I have been invited for interview. Surprised since i wasn't expecting it given the fact that i do not have Work experience but good scores in GRE, GMAT and 3.89 GPA from a Top US University. Also have some good internships and UG research experience. I want to know what percentage of those interviewed for admission actually end up getting offers of admission. Thanks.

Hey guys, 1st year FT MBA student here. While I cannot give you a solid, assuring answer as Rotman takes a holistic approach to review all the candidates fair and square (trust me on this), but as a current student and a former applicatnt perspective, I can tell you that we have very diverse work experience and academic backgrounds that just a length of experience does not determine a candidate's eligibility, so do your best and have fun with the interview. Also, one more advice is to take advantage of Rotman Admission Team blog (https://inside.rotman.utoronto.ca/admissions/) as they are there to help you and provide a personalized guidance. Also, to get a better sense of how the school life will be,

1. Contact Rotman to sign up for a class (you actually get to listen to lecture with current students)
2. Follow student blogs (https://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/Degrees/M ... Blogs.aspx).

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions other than really generic stuff that's searchable on Google and Rotman website in less than 20 sonds :p

Got admission. Received email confirmation. Admission package being sent to my address. Know of anyone else admitted without having full time work experience like me?
