If I had to guess, this was the problem with your application. I think what they really want to hear is why
YOU. The essays are "trick questions" in that regard, because ultimately, most people's answers to why CBS and why NYC will be relatively similar and uninteresting. Characterizing and selling yourself and your uniqueness in all three of the essays is critical, despite the relative lack of instruction to do just that (outside of the CBS matters essay).
