Stats:
Hispanic male
25, 26 at matriculation
720 GMAT (48Q, 41V)
3.5 GPA, non-HPS Ivy
2 years F100 Corporate Strategy, 2 years boutique consulting (promoted once at each job)
Co-founder of non-profit
Strong essays and recommendations

No idea what I missed here - put a strong emphasis on why Columbia, why NYC, and very clear (and obtainable) career goals.

Oh well, on to the next one. Numbers game, I suppose.

If I had to guess, this was the problem with your application. I think what they really want to hear is why YOU. The essays are "trick questions" in that regard, because ultimately, most people's answers to why CBS and why NYC will be relatively similar and uninteresting. Characterizing and selling yourself and your uniqueness in all three of the essays is critical, despite the relative lack of instruction to do just that (outside of the CBS matters essay).

Perhaps you're right. This was the only app I worked closely with a very well-regarded consultant, so I hope that he/she would have caught that, but perhaps that was it.

Who did you use as your consultant, If you don't mind me asking?

I'd rather not say, since I do think he is great to work with, and this one data point isn't enough to tarnish his name online. Like I said, he is very well-regarded. Ultimately even the best consultant in the world can't guarantee anything.

Looking back at the posts, most interview invites have come on Wednesday and Thursday. I might be reading into it too much, but hopefully they wait until the end of the week, still gives us hope.

Has anyone who submitted around 30th heard back ?

I submitted the apps (ED) on 29th and haven't heard anything since.

CBS was my dream school, but I guess its time to move on :(

Hi,
I am new on this page. The deadline for early decision is 7th Oct right? I thought colleges begin reviewing the apps once the deadline is over. Then how come some people have already been invited for interviews? Is the system different for early decision?

Columbia has rolling admissions. ED applicants hear whether or not they got an interview generally around 4 weeks after they submit.

Columbia reviews your application as and when you submitted.
Hence the word "rolling" admissions.

Thanks for clearing my doubt guys. Also, I wish to apply to ED(7th Oct) but am yet to start my essays The people who have already applied, do you think it is possible for me to make the deadline, if I put in all my time on this only?

It depends. I spent almost a week on each essay.
But then i had also visited the Morning side campus, so I took a lot of time processing the information into a coherent story.
Apply when you are absolutely ready.
Good luck with the apps :)

Yes, I personally spent about 3 weeks on different drafts of the essays, 2 weeks on drafts of my resume, and then some time going over my story. But keep in mind this is while working 70 hours a week so it wasn't front and center for me a lot of that time.

I would say you could do it, but it wouldn't be very good unless you have a solid outline of your story so far.

I wanted to do the same cross check. It is plausible that Columbia has a weekly agenda for rejecting/invinting applicants.

But that's pure speculation, let's hope some invites get sent today.

In regards to losing hope, I would stay confident until someone who submitted after me got an invitation.

As much as we want to predict wait time, past results are not guarantees of future performance.

So far it seems the interview invitations are sent out within or at 3 weeks after the submission, if there is one.
Can I draw a hasty conclusion that if nothing happened after 4 or more weeks since submission yet, I am expecting a direct ding?

Here I just want to contribute a data point.
Reapplicant
Submitted: 8/25
4 weeks today, nothing yet...

I've been coming to this thread a lot and I just wanted to post an update on my process in case any of you guys need another data point.

Submitted: 8/19
Invited to interview: 9/09
Interviewed: 9/16
Interviewer feedback submission: 9/20
Final Decision: ???

Here are my stats in case you guys are interested:

Male, 25 years old, Asian, US Applicant
GMAT: 720
GPA: 3.7 from a top 20 college
WE: At matriculation, will have four years of corporate finance experience with 2 promotions
Extracurriculars: Helped found non-profit and well-traveled
Goals: Pretty achievable and finance-related

The interview was pretty conversational. Just a lot of the "Why Columbia?" type questions. I know a lot of you are getting pretty anxious. Hang in there and best of luck!
