Hi Tiska,

ISB is relatively lenient in giving out deferrals. The Teach for India program is considered highly by b-schools such as ISB, and I am sure if you make it through the ISB program, they will consider your case for sure.

Just make it a point to convince them about why TFI really matters to you and how you will use that experience to add to the ISB class. Let me also mention here that ISB does get a few candidates from TFI so don't say anything as obvious like I will contribute to ISB because I went to TFI.

WE have a webinar coming up with ISB on last minute application advice - this is on 30th October, 8 pm onwards. Log in there to get yoru queries answered by the adcom.

Thanks for the insight. I will surely try to attend the webinar. :)

It would be great if someone could help me with this dilemma.

Given the difficulty level of getting admission in ISB, I applied for Teach for India as well. Luckily, I got into Teach for India and got shortlisted for ISB as well. Now, as the results for ISB will not be out till 15th Nov while I have to send a confirmation for Teach for India by 17th Nov. It would be great if anybody could give me a suggestion that which one would be a better choice given all the uncertainty associated?

I understand career goals play important role for making such a decision but, I was wondering that would ISB consider giving me a deferral in case I make through ISB too (although it is difficult, just wanted to explore the possibility).

Thanks.

Hi Tiska,

I am currently a fellow with Teach for india and ISB had deferred my admission for 2 years so that I could complete the fellowship. I can help you in whatever way I can as I have been in your exact situation :)

Thanks for the offered help.
I just wanted to know how did you approach ISB for the defer? Did you need to give some documents like offer letter? Anything else that you can suggest?

Think I can write good essays. All ears for u guys' comment.

Hi Biyania,

Your GMAT & GPA scores do put you in a bit of a bad situation- An IT background, and average scores together do not make a great combination.

So let's focus on the better aspects of your profile: More than average work experience- suggests leadership opportunity, maturity, career progression, and better capabilityof contributing in class.
Emphasize on these aspects. Its a plus point that you are a good essay writer - make them relevant as well! Also, focus upon your analytics background to deomonstrate you can handle the coursework.

Please do attend the info session we have organized with ISB today at 8 pm, and ask the admissions team how you can highlight other aspects of your profile to overcome the academic weaknesses.

Got the mail ...
Not shortlisted. This proves all the recommendations wrong that re applicants are highly likely to get a call from ISB.
Even an adcom member told me so that I should get a call :(

I think they have stopped giving personalized feedback.
Asked for a feedback after my interview last year three four times.
but they refused to give the feedback and scheduled a general Ask your queries call.

I am done with my interview at Mohali campus. Interview lasted for 20-25 minutes although all the others before me were in the room for more than 30 minutes. Below are the questions:
1) What kind of person is Ankit Bhargava?
2) What is your daily life like? After coming from office, what you do?
3) What all serials you watch on TV, name them with Channel names and timing? Then a few verification questions of the serials?
4) Why MBA at this point of your career? I have 6.5 years of exp so they asked me if i know about PGPMAX course
5) Asked about my part time business which i am involved in? Statistics about the business? Quantitative analysis?
6) Was asked to point out atleast 3 negative points of my business?
7) Dream job after ISB?
8) Why only ISB and not going for MBA in US?

There were only 5 candidates today.

The panel was pretty cool and we exchanged few statements in Hindi. They did not particularly dig into my application. I mentioned my achievements, extra curriculars etc.

Hope that helps!!!

Edit: I was asked to write one word essay on "Hypocrisy"

Thanks for the consolations Archit, but I am really not sure that where did I go wrong.
Was an interviewed reappicant, applied in Round1...May be the reapplicant essay was not good enough :(
90th percentile on GMAT means 10% of the people are ahead of me :P
That means on an average in 2.5 lakh people give GMAT in a year, then 25000 are ahead of me.
And thats a good number. So would say not a big achievement.
Still bygones are bygones. Will do something else and lets see where do i go..

All the best for your result!!

Hi Ankur! Though R1 applicants are called for interview in R2 sometimes, the chances are very rare. It's wise to plan ahead. Nevertheless, feel free to send us your application and we may be able to at least figure out what went wrong.

Thanks a lot for the kind gesture. I do not think my application will be retained for R2 as they have updated the status as not shortlisted fro interview.
I think I was ditched by the reapplicant essay. Will send you all the essays by PM to get a feedback from the experts.

Thanks a lot!

@Zeal, you might want to consider appearing for GMAT again. Your profile and work experience should help and you must put lot of effort in your essays. Best of luck.

Hi newtorewards80,
I am waiting and will probably again apply next year after re-appearing for GMAT. Thanks. And there u go with your kudos.
By the way, can is there any way where I can reappear for GMAT and still be an applicant for this year itself? You think I should check this with isb?

Hi Zeal,

I am an Indian female applicant as well with 8 years consulting experience ( 3 years Polish and Russian experience- leading operations of both the offices here) but with a GMAT of 620. I was shortlisted for an interview 2 weeks back. So keep up your hopes. If your essays have highlighted your personality and justify the need for an MBA at ISB - everything should go fine.

Ankur,

that's rather bad! I will agree with you that ISB has been less favorable to reapplicants this year.

Just to add to this - a score of 750 would not have helped if they had decided to not shortlist you. So don't think about the GMAT score. After you present your best application, its no longer in your hands. & then, its best to move on.

All the best for your other b-schools.
