Calling all Olin(St.Louis) Applicants: (2016 Intake) Class of 2018!!

need some advice on the essay for olin, the introductory essay is unique and i am confused whether the introduction is to be a formal one or an informal
any kind of help will be much appreciated

I am not an expert but having written a one, I will try to give you my take on this essay.

I have tried to include every little details right from my school days to my current job. Be you, and tell them who you are. Your personality is your unique identity. Try to include your achievements - personal and professional both - and your failures that have served you a lesson. You can even show how has the community/society you live in shaped and influenced your thought. I am from North-East so I have taken advantage of this situation and put in my essay and told them how I, being from North-East, can bring a unique story to the MBA program.

It's not a necessity but you can even share your inspiration to pursue MBA.

A simple advice would be: Think you are at your first day in an Olin class. How would you introduce yourself? What would make your peers and classmates remember you? There is no such thing as being formal or informal as long as it adds up to showcasing your profile in the right way. Happy writing !!

I just submitted mine for round 1!

So for the essay, I had two paragraph, the first part is about my background and my hobbies, and the second part is about my expectation of being part of Olin and how I would contribute and interact with my fellow classmates.

And I agree with SohamDutta, for this essay, all it is is for you to showcase your profile the right way.

By the way, any idea when Olin will start sending out invitations for interviews?

I really like the no application fees, no recommendation letters policy, super sweet.

I prepared my essay in the reverse chronological order starting of with my most recent career achievements going back to my undergrad years highlighting both professional and personal traits over three paragraphs. I rounded it off with a fourth para highlighting how Olin would help me meet my goals and why Olin is my first choice.

I believe most schools get back to you within 2-3 weeks.

Just on a side note guys does introduction need to show how we fit in program.I have framed it in such a manner which connects my personality to Olin culture.In short I showed how olin and I can be a good fit without putting much stress on how Olin can help me reach xyz goal and why it is my prime choice.

I thought class will be much interested to know my story which leads me to Olin rather than my aspirations from/after olin. Thats what the essay prompt says "Olin remembers everyone by his/her story". So I stressed upon my life journey which shaped me as an individual - an individual aspiring xyz comes in the process only.

Submitted my Olin app today. Fingers Crossed !!

Will be submitting Olin by tonight. Olin really stood out in this initial process and made me want it even more so. Hoping that some other schools encourage a similar,relaxed application approach. Good Luck to all!

PS. Why are all schools so quiet? Same silence in Emory and Kelley..or am I missing out on some Nostradamus apocalyptic predictions?

I think things will get a lot more lively when it gets closer to the interview invitation time. Give it about two to three weeks and I bet you will see a lot more discussion.

Good luck! Olin makes it really easy, and it is the only school in the top 20 that does it, props to them. The no recommendation part definitely made it a breeze to deal with, but I don't see other schools following this trend.

Only 37 people here applied to Olin in round 1? that is surprising given the good ranking and easy application process.

Kelley got 100 already, and McDonough got 57, and even USC got 63.

Ugh one person with perfect GPA already got denied?
