whats a wrong move ? isb or xl or either ? well, I am not inclined for an mba for a salary increase but as a long term "no growth path" avoidance mechanism. I have had both IT and analytics consulting experience. But that was not core management consulting experience.

I think mba from a premier school can pole vault into the consulting space.

what do you think ? ankur ?

I think you will face a similar kind of question in the interview that ankur faced, on the issue of working as a consultant, a long term goal........

Thanks ankur..I am though planning to take gmat again and get that 7xx score. I am also planning to apply XLRI 1 yr gmp. what do you think about it ? How do you compare xl with ISB's 1 yr program given the fees of ISB 23 Vis a vis xl's 14.5 ??

I would say, it would be unjust to compare two colleges just based on the fees structure.
Both are big brand names and have their respective advantages

XL has a small class size, that can be an advantage,
ISB on the other hand is ISB :D

All the best for your GMAT.
But keep one thing in mind. Do not let your essays suffer because of your GMAT. Keep on writing the essays side by side.

Yes it surely can. I have seen many IT people move into consulting domain after an MBA.
Just that you need to be prepared about why specifically an MBA is required to pole vault you into the consulting domain.
You could have directly joined some consulting firm like deloitte, accenture etc.

I was asked the same question and was not able to give them a convincing answer.
So please be prepared for such question sin the interview, and if you figure out why ... then please share your ideas with me too :)

All the best :)

Archit, in my case, working as a consultant long term was not an issue. I was not able to explain them properly as to why i need an MBA to go into the consulting side.
This was where they caught hold of me.
Many IT guys move to consulting after MBA, they also know. But they want to know your story about how MBA fits in. And the story has to be a good one :)

Back on gmatclub after a break... Updates from me include a ding from INSEAD.. Very disappointing and had my heart ache for a week at least.
Anyway working on my ISB application.

This is a question which even I am thinking of - not sure if I have a proper answer yet for that question.. Maybe we can talk about the holistic bigger picture which MBA will give, which will be useful in the longer run...

Yeah, this is one question that people should think deeply about..guys please beware that the answers to these questions may not be a low hanging fruit and often come along with painstaking thinking and contemplation.

I will for example, think along the analytics line more than IT line. May be some argument like analytics-> consulting-> business consulting .

Let grow and build on this.

With this post, we have surpassed the number of posts in last year's ISB thread.
The 96th post on last year's thread was after the final admissions were rolled out,
In fact even after the classes started :)

And here we are one month away from R1 deadline :)
Kudos to all the people here ...

Please keep the good work going on

Given your experience, i think 600 should suffice, you must be having loads to write in the essays.
Make the most of it :)

Hi Archit,
Ya going on fine as of now, targeting to submit around 1st of September.
I am really in a fix as to what to write in this essay, contemplated for around 2 hours yesterday night on this :)
I do not want it to be just a copy of last years essay, with a different language.

Last year, i wrote about different aspects of my profile, which i could not write in the other essays, such as CSR activities, sports, hobbies etc.
I do not know if it was good or not :P

As far as i remember, you have submitted the application, right?
