Yale SOM Class of 2019 - Calling all Admitted Students!!

The school wrote that they don't confirm when the background check is complete, but I see on my status page that there is a red X next to the background verification. Does this change when they are finished with the check? Meaning, do the school an Re Vera not tell you that it's done, but they update your status page?

Don't remember the status page at this point but I do remember getting a copy of my report or some other paperwork from revera that basically said their check was done and I was a good human being (not really, kinda).

@Wilch?? Do you remember?

Yes, absolutely. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet the Director of Financial Aid herself at an SOM reception in Mumbai in October, and asked her a couple of similar questions.

Just in case this helps, here's what I was told: students can borrow up to 80% of the total cost of attendance. For international students, there are two third party lenders that are most popular and offer student loans to international students without cosigner (Prodigy and Quorum). Both options have their pros and cons in terms of interest rates, ease of application, etc. So you might want to look up these options and appear slightly better informed before you write to the office. Yale SOM also happens to have worked out a great deal for its students with Prodigy, which now offers loans at very competitive interest rates to SOM students.

Just received the welcome package. I'm blown away by how amazing this feels. Makes my decision so much harder now. The handwritten note from Mrs.Melissa Fogerty was just the best.

Agree, felt so amazing to receive the Welcome Package! I'm so torn -I loved my visit at SOM but have been offered a $70k scholarship at Kellogg. Feels tough to turn down.

They're doing everything they can to make this decision really tough for me. Ughh. I love both Yale SOM and Kellogg so much! Feeling devastated rather than ecstatic at the prospect of turning one down. :(

I imagine! Normally we try to do pros and cons lists when facing this big life changing decisions, but I do believe that your heart already knows the answer!

At the end, it all comes down to what you want to do after MBA. Yale and Kellogg's are two very different schools, especially in their terms of offerings for Indian candidates. Think long and hard what you want after MBA and which school gives you the best opportunities to achieve it. The plus is you really can't go wrong in either of the choice you make. Good Luck

Heart says one thing, head says the other. I think the most logical thing to do for the engineer in me will be to chalk out the pros and cons of each school before picking one. But what I do know for a fact is that I'm going to feel really bad turning the other down.

Hormazd91 I think we're in similar situations! Feeling torn between Kellogg and Yale. My plan was to target a strong general management program so ultimately I think Kellogg makes the most sense for me, though it still feel like a daunting decision!

How much scholarship from Yale?
Are you debating between an M7 with scholarship V.S Yale with no $?

I belive Yale is becoming one of the solid top 10 and may reach top 5 in the near future but to some people it may already be in the level of HSW! That's just amazing! (Not being sarcastic!)

As aerien mentioned, if you have a scholarship offer from another school but would still like to attend Yale, contact the admissions office and tell them about this - it won't hurt your candidacy if you ask politely :)

RE: Torn between 2-3 schools

I highly suggest making your decision after the welcome weekend. If you would like to reach out to folks with similar background/career aspirations, message me and I can try to put you in touch with some 1st/2nd years.

Can't speak to the 2016 employment report, but the 1st/2nd years, including myself, have access to a "who went where" spreadsheet. Can give you some insights if you have specific questions.

Consider this from their angle - Yale SOM admits people they want and they also want to maximize their yield (minimizing candidate rejections).

Every admit sent out is a like a marriage proposal. They'll do what they can within their constraint (endowment allocated to scholarships) to bring you on board.

I can't promise anything, but you certainly won't get any financial aid if you don't reach out to them and articulate your situation.

Best of luck and I sincerely hope you can get some kind of support from them!
