In for R1. Let's get this started. People: Who are all of you?

Here is my story in a nutshell:

Graduated in 2011 as an electrical engineering, worked for two years a big engineering firm, as a electrical design engineer, then switched major gears towards education as a Teach for India fellow, where I taught for 2 years. Now I am a program manager at a start up in which I work as a consultant with 20 school leaders on a school transformation project.

Count me in. I completed undergrad in December 2012 (one semester early) and have been working for a Big Four firm originally in audit but successfully networked to a vertical in the consulting arm.

Wharton - Admission Trends!

Hi Everyone, Here is our analysis of admission trends and acceptance chances at Wharton based on our accumulated forum data of applicants. We have analysed our forum data of Wharton applicants from 2012 to 2016 to determine acceptance chances by GMAT score, admission rounds, industry, age, country, etc.

The data used for this analysis is self-reported, so it's advised to use findings of this analysis with discretion. They are meant to give only a general idea of admission scenario at Wharton. Don't presume that these findings will hold true all the time.

We would welcome any comments, opinions, suggestions or anything else that you might have to say about the findings of this analysis.

YOY Acceptance Rate and Avg GMAT of Applicants

Sample Size: 3192 Applicants

Acceptance Rate by GMAT Score

  • Among the 1677 applicants that we considered for this chart, around 90% had GMAT score of 700 or above and 72% had GMAT score of 720 or above. This finding tells us that those with lower than 700 GMAT need to have strong profile and convincing story for applying to Wharton.
  • 42% of interviewed candidates got acceptance from Wharton.

Sample Size: 1677 Applicants

Acceptance Rate by Admission Round

Sample Size: 3192 Applicants (1794 Applicants in R1, 1332 Applicants in R2, and 66 Applicants in R3)

Acceptance Rates of Applicants in Different Age Groups

Sample Size: 1170 Applicants

Acceptance rates of applicants from various industries

  • The first chart - line chart - shows acceptance rates of applicants from various industries and the pie chart next to it shows industry-wise allocation of applicants.

Sample Size: 1388 Applicants

Acceptance Rates of Applicants from Various Regions

Sample Size: 1111 Applicants

As I said earlier, we welcome your views, counter-views, suggestions, etc on the analysis. Thank you!

Very minor question on the application:

It says to upload the resume in Word format but when I uploaded my one page resume, the preview shows it as 2 pages. The uploader accepts PDFs as well and the PDF version of my resume is just 1 page in the preview. Is it ok to upload the PDF?

Hi jmikery@

From my personal view, I think it is not okay to upload the PDF when Wharton requires Word Format. Good luck to your application :-D

Nope. It does not say to upload in word for the resume. It accepts PDF for the resume. It is for the Additional Employment Information that they request should be in word document. Although strangely, it has this in the prompt. So I am guessing "word document" does not refer to MS Word.

"Accepted File Types: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt"
