Nice work on the 700, DebWenger! On average, it does seem that the Kaplan tests are tougher, so that's definitely a good sign. Keep in mind that it's unbelievably difficult for test-prep firms to perfectly copy the actual GMAT, so you can expect some variability from test to test -- which is why it's hard to say with a straight face that Kaplan tests are ALWAYS harder than other tests. Still a good sign though! And yes, using the tables in the back of the OG is probably the best way to translate the percentile into a raw section score.

Resetting the MGMAT tests is fine -- you'll see repeat questions, but that's probably not the end of the world. There's no point to uninstalling the GMATPrep software, though. If you retake those tests, you'll see some repeat questions, regardless of whether you uninstall the software or just retake the test. The questions will be drawn from the same bank, no matter what.

I hope this helps!

Thanks GMATNinja.I will probably be taking a few more free tests from some other sources as well ;)
For example i took the Economist Test and got a terribel 640.Surprisingly i had got far less no of questions wrong in this than the Kaplan test, yet i ended up with a lower score.Checked no of wrongs for the 1st 10 questions as well, and they are almost the same.Might be they are using a diff algorithm altogether.
I guess,i'll stick to the mgmats and gmat preps, after resetting them of course.

DebWinger, if you're looking for more CATs to take and you exhausted MGMAT and GMAC, I highly suggest picking up Kaplan Premier.

I wanted to share my experience: I have written quite a few CAT-s and my scores were more or less the same. For Kaplan users, have in mind, QUANT section is easier than on the actual test, while verbal is rather hard and some problems are of low quality (especially reading is frustrating).
As for MGMAT - Quant section is very hard :)
I really recommend Veritas tests, I guess overall they are the best representatives of real tests.
And here are results for each test:

CAT Total % Quantitive Verbal IR
GMATprep 700 90 46 71 40 90 7 81
KaplanTest 740 97 51 97 34 71 3 25
KaplanTest 710 92 50 88 36 81 4 37
KaplanTest 730 96 51 97 35 76 6 67
KaplanTest 710 92 50 88 38 85 4 37
KaplanTest 730 96 50 88 40 91 7 81
GMATprep 720 94 48 78 41 93 8 92
VeritasTest 720 94 49 83 40 90 5 52
MGMATTest 690 87 48 74 36 81 2.96
VeritasTest 740 97 50 90 41 93 6 67
VeritasTest 740 97 50 90 42 96 6 67

actualTest 720 94 49 79 39 89 4 37

Hey,

do you know how the GMAT Prep Exam 1 is measured?

I was a little bit surprised and happy because of my 77 percentile in the verbal section. Being a non-native speaker, I totally messed up the SC part with 7 out of 17 questions , but after 4h with my tutor the strategies for CR and RC worked fine already.

I just wonder now If my score is somehow "inflated" since many test-takers may take the Exam1 before they even started with preparing. That would give an advante I wont have in the real GMAT.

I'm trying to figur out which free CAT I should take next. My real exam is on the 9th of April, and I want to take a CAT this Sunday (29th of May). I've already done the 2 GMATpreps and The Economist mock exam. So that kind of leaves MGMAT, Veritas and Kaplan. I'm trying to get the most accurate one (because I can't really use a big disappointment this close to my test - I've heard some mock exams are way more difficult on Quant than the real deal).

Hi,
I was considering Optimus Prep. What do you think of their CAT tests?

Personal review of the Veritas Prep Tests, it seems they might be on a bit of the high side. I got 700-720 on those test while on the official pratice I been getting 670 - 680

Here's a personal review of Princetonreview Tests and Kaplan Practice Tests --

Quant of Princetonreview tests is sometimes way too easy and sometimes too difficult with nothing in between
Verbal of Princetonreview tests is in fact good especially the RCs which are on a medium to higher difficulty level.

My Princeton Tests scores
Test 1 - 660 (QA - 32/37 , VA - 30/41)
Test 2 - 740 (QA - 28/37 , VA - 35/41)

Quant of Kaplan tests is balanced overall and i think close to actual GMAT questions
Verbal of Kaplan tests is little hard than actual GMAT
Test 1 - 740 (QA - 24/37 , VA - 23/41)
Test 2 - 760 (QA - 34/37 , VA - 30/41)

Hope my post is useful !! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hi BB,
I am considering buying MG test on site or through MG books. I think that onsite one is offering more tests after we finish the 6 tests, the extra tests would take questions of from a question bank. So is it worth buying online package or accessing 6 tests through buying MG book is enough, plz advise?? :?: :?: :?:

From my knowledge you should go for Manhattan test series consisting of 6 tests which offer a realistic assessment of your scores very close to GMAT. Kaplan tests are also good and offers very good assessment

I want to buy Manhattan gmat test series. But i am in a dilemma.

The cost of Test series is 49$. But if i buy a Gmat Strategy Guide, say SC strategy guide, which cost me 26$, i get those test series free with it.

so should i go for a Gmat Strategy Guide to save my money ???
Both test series are same naa ??

Hi Sachin,
The tests are the same but as i have posted, MG says that with online test series they offer unlimited tests (after the 6 original tests) which draws questions from a question bank but only 6 practice tests are available with purchase of books, so i think online purchase would be a better bet if subsequent tests are different from the first 6 tests. Clear this though before making a purchase decision.......
Also if you only want test you can buy e-version of MG book on Amzaon.
