An old Russian proverb says you should "Eat your breakfast alone, eat your lunch with your friend, give your dinner to your enemy." A new school of dietitians would have it, therefore, that missing dinner twice a week actually contributes not only to the patients' weight loss, but also to their general health.

The new school of dietitians' argument is based on which of the following assumptions?

A. While the Russian proverb argues that dinner is a problematic meal, it does not promote forsaking it altogether.
B. Eating dinner with enemies is a sign of reconciliation, which may improve one's health.
C. While eating solids is to be encouraged at breakfast and is permissible during lunch, Dinner should contain only fluids.
D. The Russian proverb states that one should give his dinner to his enemy, so that one never has dinner.
E. Russian metabolism works differently from western metabolism, and therefore while for the Russian the evening meal is merely problematic, the westerner should actually do without it.

Tricky one..took 3 mins..

Prephase the argument : The main conclusion is that skipping dinner is actually contributing to weight loss and it also contributing to the overall health.

Contributing means some improvement to overall health and we need to check the options which have link between health and dinner .

If you observe the options carefully as per the above analysis only options A and B have such link and remaining options are nonsensical or out of scope.

Now negate option A : While the Russian proverb argues that dinner is a problematic meal, it does promote forsaking it altogether and this weakens the conclusion. Here we are not abandoning dinner altogether. We are just forsaking only for the betterment of health.

Now negate option B : Eating dinner with enemies is NOT a sign of reconciliation, which may improve one's health. - This has no effect on the conclusion.

So option A is correct.

A. While the Russian proverb argues that dinner is a problematic meal, it does not promote forsaking it altogether.
Will keep it for the round 2
round 2- negate and it becomes it promotes forsaking it altogether

B. Eating dinner with enemies is a sign of reconciliation, which may improve one's health.
Really ? focuses on literal meaning and not the actual one.

C. While eating solids is to be encouraged at breakfast and is permissible during lunch, Dinner should contain only fluids.
new information , does nothing to support or defend the argument. --out !

D. The Russian proverb states that one should give his dinner to his enemy, so that one never has dinner.
opposite of option A---

E. Russian metabolism works differently from western metabolism, and therefore while for the Russian the evening meal is merely problematic, the westerner should actually do without it.
---out !

I would have gone with D !!

Conclusion : skipping dinner twice not only helps to loose weight but also is good for health.

A. While the Russian proverb argues that dinner is a problematic meal, it does not promote forsaking it altogether. Negating it weakens the conclusion. As the conclusion says that skipping dinner twice leads to good health but does not suggest to completely skip the dinner. Hence correct answer

B. Eating dinner with enemies is a sign of reconciliation, which may improve one's health. conclusion focuses on advantage of skipping dinner twice and not about advantage of eating the dinner with enemy..
C. While eating solids is to be encouraged at breakfast and is permissible during lunch, Dinner should contain only fluids. Argument does not discuss about the type of meals.
D. The Russian proverb states that one should give his dinner to his enemy, so that one never has dinner. it weakens the conclusion.. hence out
E. Russian metabolism works differently from western metabolism, and therefore while for the Russian the evening meal is merely problematic, the westerner should actually do without it. nowhere the argument discuss about the difference between Russian or western metabolism.

Proverb says give your dinner to your enemy. It means every night give your dinner to your enemy. When you give dinner every night, then you cannot have dinner any night.
YOU CANNOT EAT AT NIGHT. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE DINNER. HAVING DINNER IS FORBIDDEN.

Now the dietician is agreeing with this proverb but is saying that don't eat dinner 2 nights in a week. SO it has assumed that the proverb doesn't mean to stop eating dinner forever . This is the assumption. What option matches this

A) A. While the Russian proverb argues that dinner is a problematic meal, it does not promote forsaking it altogether.

New school of dietitian follow their plan to skip dinner twice a week based on old Russian saying to give it to the enemy, so the implied assumption here is that the proverb does not recommends to forsake dinner completely but to skip it occasionally only.
