We can create the equation where n = number of children = number of adults:
21 = 420/(n + n)
42n = 420
n = 10
Thus, the amount spent on tickets was 10 x 20 + 10 x 10 = 300 dollars. So, 420 - 300 = 120 dollars was spent on food.

Solution:
- Let the number of adults and children be \(x\) each
- They spent a total of \($420\) with an average of \($21\)
- Thus, we can form the equation \(21=\frac{420}{x+x}\)
\(⇒2x=\frac{420}{21}\)
\(⇒2x=20\)
\(⇒x=10\)
- Number of children = Numer of adults \(= 10\) each
- Amount spent on adult tickets \(=10\times 20=200\)
- Amount spent of children tickets \(=10\times 10=100\)
- Amount spent on food = remaining amount \(= 420-(200+100)=120\)
Hence the right answer is Option B
