Homeostasis, an animal’s maintenance of certain internal variables within an acceptable range, particularly in extreme physical environments, has long interested biologists. The desert rat and the camel in the most water-deprived environments, and marine vertebrates in an all-water environment, encounter the same regulatory problem: maintaining adequate internal fluid balance.

But the excess salts from the seawater must be discharged somehow, and the kidneys of most marine vertebrates are unable to excrete a urine in which the salts are more concentrated than in seawater. Most of these animals have special salt-secreting organs outside the kidney that enable them to eliminate excess salt.

I start by paraphrasing each paragraph in the notes, each paragraph I paraphrase helps me identify what the main idea is so I keep a general idea mentally till the end.

Question 1 wants the main idea right away. This is pretty easy since I have already done that in my notes.
A, C, and E are all eliminated since the author is clearly describing various methods of homeostasis. We don't see any comparison to various homeostasis methods. There's no arguing from paragraph to paragraph. We don't see a mention of defending a theory.
B looks appealing, but I'm not sold. Since studies on homeostasis isn't mentioned at all in the reading, just examples of types of homeostasis.
D aligns with my main idea that I wrote in my notes, which stated "various examples of homeostasis". Correct!
Question 2 wants us to look at the third paragraph to infer why "sweating and panting" is needed in camels. The sentence we'll read is "by sweating and panting only when their body temperature exceeds that which would kill a human, they(camels) conserve internal water.". So any option that mentions a connection to reducing water loss, conserving water, or maintaining water will be an option to hold on to.
A is the opposite of what we want, eliminate it.
C, D and E don't mention anything related to sentence or outcome from camels panting, and sweating.
B is a direct result of sweating and panting, drop in fluid/water. Correct!
