Option A  is the correct answer in my opinion because as they have mentioned in the passage that multivitamin have equal doses of vitamins that are found in many individual supplements. So the people need not to increase the no. of pills per day.

B - no information

C - paragrapgh doesnt talk about cost.

D - "most effective way" passage talks about that many people take supplements but doesnt says that it is most effective.

E - no information

Option A looks good based on elimination.

Have one doubt though - out of curiosity - option says 'not all'...does this imply that some might have to increase no. of pills?
And I am not sure why there would be an increase in no. of pills as the dosage is same.

(A) Not all people switching from individual calcium supplements to multivitamins need to increase the number of pills they take daily.

Can someone explain why option (A).
I am thinking loud (please correct me where I am wrong)

If 100 people , not all people means (0 to 99 people).
EXTREME CASE:
- 0, NO people switching from individual calcium supplements to multivitamin need to increase the number of pills they take daily.
- 99, almost all people switching from individual calcium supplements to multivitamin need to increase the number of pills they take daily.

BUT atleast, 1 person switching from individual calcium supplements to multivitamin need NOT to increase the number of pills they take daily.

Am I thinking too much.
Can someone explain how this is supported by the argument?

Official Explanation

Identify the Question Type

The correct answer will be "supported by the information" provided, making this an Inference question.

Untangle the Stimulus

The stimulus provides some information about vitamins and minerals. Many people don't get enough of certain nutrients. They can increase their intake through individual supplements or through multivitamins that (as the name implies) provide multiple vitamins and minerals in one dose.

Predict the Answer

There are many possible inferences here. Understand the implications of each statement—mentally catalog what the stimulus does and does not say. By the first statement, many people have a deficiency, but there's no indication of exactly how many people are affected or what other vitamins and minerals might be commonly lacking. The stimulus then says that many companies sell individual supplements, but not how many companies or whether all vitamins and minerals are sold individually. The final statements talk about multivitamins. The most significant piece of information is that some multivitamins contain doses of certain nutrients that are "equal" to those found in individual supplements. That makes it possible to get the same amount of certain vitamins and minerals individually or as part of a multivitamin. While it's impossible to predict exactly what the correct answer will say, you can be prepared to avoid answers that bring up subjects not addressed or that use more absolute language than is supported by this very open-ended stimulus.

Evaluate the Choices

(A) is supported. Because some multivitamins contain as much calcium as individual supplements, it may not be necessary to take more pills than before. While there may be exceptions, this answer leaves room for those cases. Choice (A) merely makes the valid deduction that some people could take the same number of pills if they switched to multivitamins.

(B) is not supported. The author never makes a claim about what people should or should not do.

(C) is not supported. There's no information given about how much any of these supplements cost, let alone how much multivitamins cost in relation to individual supplements.

(D) is extreme. There is no indication that these multivitamins are the most effective solution. There could be plenty of more effective ways of supplementing one's nutrition that are not brought up here.

(E) is not supported. Other than vitamin D, calcium, and zinc—which are available individually—there is no mention of any other specific vitamins and whether they are available individually or only as part of a multivitamin.

TAKEAWAY: Do not bring outside knowledge to bear on Inference questions. The correct answer must be supported directly by the stimulus.
