Without stoppage, Kalpana travel’s bus travels a certain distance with an average speed of 60 km/hr, and with stoppage, it covers the same distance with an average speed of 45 km/hr. On an average, how many minutes per hour does the bus stop during the journey ?
Lets say the bus does not stop. He will cover a distance of 60km in one hour.
If he does a break of lets say 30min the bus will drive the remaining 30 minutes at an average speed of 60 km/hr. The bus will thus have an average speed of 30 km/hr.
So lets make the break shorter to increase the average speed. Try 15 minutes for example. The bus will then have an average speed of 45 km/hr.

Pick number for Distance as LCM (45,60). Find LCM by taking highest prime factor of each number.
45: (5)(3^2)
60: (2^2)(3)(5)
LCM (45,60): (2^2)(3^2)(5) = 180
Time to travel without stopping at 60km/h = 180/60 = 3h
Time to travel with stopping at 45km/h = 180/45 = 4h
Difference of time = 4h-3h = 1h of stopping out of 4h
Total time stopped in minutes per hour = 1/4 x 60min = 15min
