Blood tests used to determine pregnancy can at times be inconclusive. This means that the test has been unable to determine if the woman is pregnant or not pregnant. Regardless, some doctors refuse to perform further surgeries because of an inconclusive pregnancy test result.

If the statements above are true, which of the following conclusions is most strongly supported by them?

(A) Pregnancy tests should always be given prior to surgery .

(B) Most women with inconclusive pregnancy tests are actually pregnant.

(C) Some surgical procedures are affected by whether or not a woman ispregnant.

(D) Some doctors require a pregnancy test be given when evaluating female candidates for any surgery .

(E) A pregnancy test that returns a negative result is sometimes incorrect.

wow, a 700? looks more like a 600-700.
we must choose an answer that would be 100% true, based on the information given. We know that some dox refuse to do the surgery if the tests are inconclusive. We can infer that docs, if they know the risks - they can take a decision. If no conclusive result is given - they can't assess the risk. Thus, we can deduce that in some cases, pregnancy might affect the results of some surgeries.

A. too strong. SHOULD - no.
B - no, it is not true. we are told that tests are inconclusive, and this means that it is unable to detect if the woman is pregnant or not.
C - looks good. the language is similar - some dox refuse - some surgical procedure - hold to this one
D - what? why? really?
E - might be true, but definitely not 100% true.

C for me.

The pregnancy tests are at times inconclusive and in these cases some doctors do not conduct surgeries on these women..
conclusion has to be from the point of view of these doctors..

C Some surgical procedures are affected by whether or not a woman is pregnant
This has to be the thought process of these doctors for not doing surgeries in such cases

IMO this is a 600 level question. The kind of verbiage used in a 700 level question is different.

Easily C.

Doctors are concerned about the results of pregnancy test. Hence C only fits as conclusion

Hi adkikani,
Regardless means nevertheless, despite , nonetheless etc.

Blood tests used to determine pregnancy can at times be inconclusive. This means that the test has been unable to determine if the woman is pregnant or not pregnant.

Regardless, some doctors refuse to perform further surgeries because of an inconclusive pregnancy test result. ---> What we can infer here is that sometimes the decision to perform surgery depends on the result of the Blood test used to determine pregnancy.

(There are 3 scenarios-
1. If the test returns negative , then doctor might not perform surgery else might perform otherwise
2. If the test returns positive , then doctor might not perform surgery else might perform otherwise
3. If the test in inconclusive -- we are already given what might happen in this case )

(C) Some surgical procedures are affected by whether or not a woman is pregnant.--> Correct -- This is precisely the reason the test was done in the first place.

Hope this helps!! :-)

This question is similar to the official question - https://gmatclub.com/forum/when-a-polyg ... 76590.html
