I would like to add one more point here.
Since "of" is a preposition, so it can't be followed by something other than noun.
"Being" is a continuous form of "to be", so IMSO the usage in answer choice C is incorrect.

What the source of the question... IMO B is correct.

the clause starting with "no one expected... .." we already have a subject-verb pair (no one expected) so the next Subject-Verb pair (the press was ) must be in the subordinate clause or an infinitive form (which is not actually a verb form) to make the sentence right.

so A,D and E are gone.
Option C wordy awkward, more over I feel the correct Idiom is "expect someone to do something"
So I would go with B

Cheers

C .cannot is the choice conceptually.
An expectation is a thing of speculation, whereas of being is a thing of definiteness. Both cannot get on idiomatically with each other. An expectation entails an infinite form such as -to be - to put its perspective properly.
Being fair modifies the press. -Being- used is untouchable for GMAT.
B is the proper choice.
