Statements 1 and 2 combined There are several values of x and y that satisfy BOTH statements. Here are two: Case a: a = 1, b = 2 and c = 2. In this case, a+b+c = 1+2+2 = 5, and 5 is ODD Case b: a = 2, b = 1 and c = 1. In this case, a+b+c = 2+1+1 = 4, and 4 is EVEN Since we cannot answer the target question with certainty, the combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT

==>In the original condition, there are 3 variables (a,b,c), so E is highly likely to be the answer. Through 1) & 2), if (a,b,c)=(1,2,2), it is yes, but if (a,b,c)=(2,1,1), it is no, hence not sufficient. The answer is E.
