Is ab < a?

(1) a = 0. Then, ab = 0.
Hence, ab = a. Sufficient.

(2) b = 0.
Suppose, a = 5. Then ab = 0 < a.

Again, suppose a = -5.
Then ab = 0 > a.
Hence, Insufficient.

Answer A.

Is \(ab < a\)?

Rearrange:

\(ab-a< 0\)

\(a(b-1)< 0\)

(1) \(a = 0\)

If a= 0.......then it is always will be 0 <0......Answer is No

Sufficient

(2) \(b = 0\)

If b=0.....then but no info about a

Insufficient

Q-Stem : Is \(ab < a\)?

(1) \(a = 0\)..... putting the value of \(a = 0\) in Q-Stem
\(0*b < 0\) ==> \(0< 0\).... this is not true .... Thus in this case \(ab\) is not less than \(a\)........ (Sufficient)

(2) \(b = 0\)..... putting the value of \(b = 0\) in Q-Stem
\(a*0 < a\) ==> \(0< a\).... here we can not conclude anything unless we know the value of \(a\)........ (insufficient)

Thus I would go for option A.
