Is ab < a?

(1) a = 0. Then, ab = 0.
Hence, ab = a. Sufficient.

(2) b = 0.
Suppose, a = 5. Then ab = 0 < a.

Again, suppose a = -5.
Then ab = 0 > a.
Hence, Insufficient.

Is $$ab < a$$?

Rearrange:

$$ab-a< 0$$

$$a(b-1)< 0$$

(1) $$a = 0$$

If a= 0.......then it is always will be 0 <0......Answer is No

Sufficient

(2) $$b = 0$$

If b=0.....then but no info about a

Insufficient

Q-Stem : Is $$ab < a$$?

(1) $$a = 0$$..... putting the value of $$a = 0$$ in Q-Stem
$$0*b < 0$$ ==> $$0< 0$$.... this is not true .... Thus in this case $$ab$$ is not less than $$a$$........ (Sufficient)

(2) $$b = 0$$..... putting the value of $$b = 0$$ in Q-Stem
$$a*0 < a$$ ==> $$0< a$$.... here we can not conclude anything unless we know the value of $$a$$........ (insufficient)

Thus I would go for option A.
