Hello,

I am Siddharth and i am from India. I am working in an Engg firm, a mechanical engg myself. I have an experience of 5 years in a multinational company.

I have taken 3 attempts on GMAT.

1) 460-1st attempt Didnt know what to do.
2) 550-2nd attempt (Depressed).
3) 650-3rd attempt.

I have a 5 years work experience in supply chain management. And i am honestly targeting the top 20 to 25 B-Schools. I would like to seek your advice on the following queries that i have.

1) Is there a cap on the number of attempts i can take on the GMAT exam. Or is it considered by the top B-Schools that beyond "X" number of attempts a candidate will not be allowed to apply to a B-School or is the score averaged out. What is the criteria? Please need your help.

2) Will the 4th attempt be useful seeing the way i have been improving? (I am really targeting ISB Hyderabad)

3) Also at the current score and the profile what is my chances to get through the top 20 to 25 B-Schools?

Hi Sid,

1) No cap--you are limited to five attempts per calendar year and one attempt every 30 days, but there is no lifetime cap.

2) If you keep improving, most schools will take your highest score and not worry about how many attempts it took you to get there. When in doubt, though, contact the schools. Admissions departments are happy to help with such questions, and the answer may vary from school to school.

3) 650 is a little low for the top 10, and on the low end of average for the top 25. Your score is definitely not a disqualification, but you'll want to pull that number up to stand out, especially if you have any doubt about the strength of your resume and recommendations.

Insead
ISB (India)
Texas A & M
HEC (Paris)
NUS (Singapore)
Ohio state university

What is there avg GMAT score? And will they take into consideration how may times i have taken up my GMAT to get the highest score?

Also is there a need for giving tofel even if i have done my schooling and graduation from a English medium ?

Will my work exp of 5 years in a multi national company as a Supply chain manager be helpful in any ways?

You will need to check out the website of each school you are interested in to get their 'avg GMAT score and whether they need TOEFL'
As Eli mentioned, most schools will consider only your highest score (In some cases, they might consider your latest score). You can get in touch with the adcom of the school for clarification - the schools actually encourage that.

Your resume doesn't get you through in a B school; your essays do. That is, 'number of yrs of work ex', 'position/role', 'company' etc are just figures and names and don't tell much about you. The school is interested in what you did in that particular role in that company in the x number of yrs.

The cap is 8 tests lifetime, announced on the MBA.com website in November 2016.
