Hello Guys:
I'm looking for advice on how to improve my quant score on my next retake.
I finished the GMAT 2 weeks ago and scored a 700 with a 42 in Quant (56 Percentile) and 44 in Verbal (96 Percentile) for an overall 90 Percentile.
Problem 1 - Pacing in Quant: With quant, pacing my number one biggest problem. I struggle to finish the quant section on time and often misallocate time. How can I improve on this? I assume practice is the answer most people will say, but what kind of practice? What should I look for when I practice?
Problem 2 - Approach / Setup of Quant Problems: I have a feeling that there is a more deep rooted problem to my pacing issues which stem from poor setup and approach to the probelms. If the problem is practice, what are good sources of additional practice problems besides the
OG and
MGMATProblem 3 - Areas of weakness: There isn't one area that I'm doing poorly in. It's an overarching issue of pacing. It's across the board.
My questions for you:
-What materials should I use for my retake strategy? (Specifically for quant)
-What general tips do you have?
-Any must read links / articles / posts on how to improve quant score?
-Is there a general bank of questions?
-Suggested 3-4 week schedules?
-Any program or tutor that people can recommend for quant only help?
My Study Strategy to Date:
-Took both PowerPrep practice tests
-Went through
MGMAT's quant books (skimmed the ones where I was doing ok in already)
-Did 3
MGMAT practice tests
About me:
I'd like to consider myself pretty good at math outside the GMAT. I work in finance, went to a top ten liberal arts college, scored in the top 1% of SATs, and I've done well in upper level calculus / statistics/ econometrics, but I'm 4 years out of undergrad, so things like geometry, algebra, and probability were kind of rusty. I brought myself up to speed with
MGMAT books but I feel I could use more practice.
