Stanford is pretty unique. They have a really different class profile than many other business schools, and when they ask what are your goals REALLY, then they mean it. for one person it could be "become CEO of Apple" for another it could be a vague-seeming idea about bringing a certain social change to a certain area. However, even for the "vague-sounding" goal, it is a way of portraying a dream that is more than a dream (meaning the candidate will have the background to make that goal believable). So it's not like you are gonna have people who worked 6 years coding write "I want to found the most innovative PE firm in history" if they don't have the background for it!!!
