Hello guys, I'm Shaneil.. I've taken a date for GRE in november.. Planning to do ms in finance in the states in Fall 2014.. Is there any university providing with a 2 year course duration for ms in finance with summer internship? And also if someone could tell me whether work experience is necessary for ms in finance.. I have a 1 year experience though :)
My average during graduation (BFM) has been 63%.. Where do I stand?

I have taken a date for my GRE attempt in November. Wanted to know if they accept GRE scores over there for masters in finance?

Hi,

For MS Finance most schools accept GRE or GMAT. I am preparing for GMAT. But I guess just to be sure, you need to visit the webpage of the particular school (s) you are interested in and check.

And YES we need to be more active here!!

What would help to overcome my low gmat of 600-620. I donot have any work experience as such but if its really going to make a difference then I will probably work for a couple of months alongside my "application period". What do you suggest?

I am also planning for MSF for 2014, yet to give GRE next month, expecting 300 and above. Concentrating more on quants....

Most of the schools accept GRE....
Can any one provide me best schools for MSF and MFE, MSF more on finance background and MFE Finance and Quants background.

10Th 76%, maths- 92%,
12th 88%, maths- 90%,
Graduate Bcom 72%, quants- 90% and Finance & accounts- 88%,
PGDM Finance 3.505/4 GPA,
And Qualified CMA(India).

Hey guys,
Which colleges are you targeting?
I am also planning on applying to the class of fall 2014, but I am very unsure as to which colleges I should apply to. Being a commerce student, my math quota is not that high as compared to say, an engineering student. And since most of you guys here also seem to be from a commerce background, I just wanted to know.

I am also in dilema in selecting schools, Actually there are good schools with less Quant backgroun like MIT,Rochester, florida. With quant background there are plenty. To quote some of the best schools Princeton, UC, NYU etc.

I am giving my GRE next month and concentrating to score high in quants. I have 3+ years of experience. So plannig in order,
MIT
Princeton
NYU
UC
Vanderbuilt
FlU

May i know ur profile....

I'm a fresh graduate. (June 2013) from Mumbai. I was actually looking for 2 year masters programs. But as far as I can see, Princeton is the only one. Are there any others? And I don't want to be very pessimistic, but I don't know if Princeton will happen. I would really prefer a 2 year course.

Re: MS Finance 2014 [#permalink]
Most (Almost all) of the colleges require no work experience. The colleges to be targeted are as follows:
MIT
Princeton
UCB
Vanderbilt...for scores between 680-700.I believe high scores are the only option to get into the top schools(cant substitute or compensate for that) and thus land good jobs. For low scores (600)FIU, FSU are good But my main question is what about people(me) getting scores between 600-650. Should they go for the course at all. If yes, should they look at another country say Canada because of work permit policies? Also scared about the rupee man...has touched almost 70 now!!!

Re: MS Finance 2014 [#permalink]
MIT average student profiles are having 0-2 years of work exp....I am planning to give GRE, aiming 160+ in quants.... Most of the schools mentioned that a low score in GRE/GMAT can compensate with high academic background interms of relevant course in undergraduate and graduate... so chances of getting in to top univ may not be cakewalk but at the sametime its not that much tough...good academic background and solid SOP & LOR may be considered... As far as my interaction with different people who are already doing there MSF....

Re: MS Finance 2014 [#permalink]
The opportunities are more in number in US, when compared to canada.... FIU will be a decent one, It is in 3rd place in FT rankings. Don't know about the placements and course value...but the course is concentrated more on finance rather than quants. so who are planning to go for core finance they may opt for FIU....even Rochester also...
