This is particularly very interesting SC. Please try to explain the difference between "A" & "C" (it does not mean that the OA is one of these two choices, it may be may not be ;))

Although about 99 percent of the more than 50 million Turks are Muslims, the republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1923 is resolutely secular.

a) Although about 99 percent of the more than 50 million
b) Although about 99 percent of over 50 million of the
c) Although about 99 percent of more than 50 million
d) Despite the fact that about 99 percent of more than 50 million
e) Despite the fact that about 99 percent of over 50 million

Difference between "the more than 50 million" and "more than 50 million" is previous one gives definite value but latter one doesn't.

Argument wants to convey the meaning that 99 % for 50 million people. So correct option is A.

Re: SC: Turks (Challenge 4) [#permalink]
(A) implies a percentage of the entire population (more than 50 mn Turks), while (B) and (C) have an ambiguity regarding the population (the reference is to a sampling of 50 mn Turks out of the entire population - which may be anything).

 Ummm... I wonder if that made any sense.

I vote for (A).
