A. of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow

B. of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows

C. to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow

D. to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows

E. of as the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow

In this question , subject is separated by a phrase.

Subject : The mountain cornfloss ................a noun phrase, whic is singular. So, verb has to be singular too.

Verb : grow. It must be GROWS.

We can eliminate option A, C, E. Being make the sentence awkward. avoid being.

D is the best answer.

Cornfloss —> singular. So, A, C and E are out
“Thought of as being” is incorrect usage. So, B is out

D) is the correct choice

1. Thought to be idiomatically correct.
2. The mountain cornfloss........... grows (S-V usage)

The answer must be (D) for the highlighted errors in other options...

Can someone please help me with how grow is plural and grows is singular? I chose C only because of this confusion of singular and plural

Can you explain more about the noun phrase and its various cases with examples. It would be of great help.

Hello Kunal760,

Let me help you on this matter. Whenever there is a singular noun, we use singular form of a verb and similarly a plural verb for a plural noun.
Let me give you some examples:

He goes to school everyday.
They go to school everyday.
Rita goes to school everyday.
Children go to school everyday.

In the above examples, you can see that whenever we use a plural noun i.e. "They" & "Children", we use the plural form of the verb "Go".
If the noun is singular, then we use the singular form i.e. "goes".

I hope, I cleared your query.
In this sentence "the mountain cornfloss" is a singular noun. That's why we used "grows" instead of "grow".

The mountain cornfloss, native to the Rocky Mountains from Colorado to [#permalink]
Correct Option D:
The mountain cornfloss, (Subject)
native to the Rocky Mountains from Colorado to Canada and
thought to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers,
grows (verb) on steep ledges and in deep cracks on remote mountaintops.
Maintains Parallelism, No SV Agreement and Correct use of "to be" rather than - "as"

Error in Options, as indicated below:
A. of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow
B. of as being the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows
C. to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow
D. to be the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grows
E. of as the most beautiful of all wildflowers, grow
